if you can only do one?

I can buy another Glock (already carry a 19, was thinking about carrying a 36), or just buy $500 worth of 9mm and .223?

M4gery (that I took a Carbine 1 class with) and my 19.

Only thinking about another Glock, or possibly a decent AK (as a fall back if my AR failed, and there was not a way to buy new parts or a new rifle).

If you had a full safe than I'd say start buying lots of ammo but since you don't I'd say another AR or an AK.

I have a Glock 36. Great gun

I know metals are coming down but do you think it will take more than that for ammo to come down too?

I would by an AK or ammo over another Glock. Nothing against the Glock, but I don't see those going anywhere.

gun and ammo!

I have a very nice K98 (yugo-fied) that I can fall back to, but falling back to a bolt gun (although extremely reliable and accurate) makes my stomach turn.

I would go with ammo first.  Your existing weapons are useless without it, just like your new gun would be.

I guess the real question,

is it not smart to have only one black rifle or modern MBR?

You have to be kidding. You are asking ARFCOM that question?

Multiple ARs and ammo. If you have to start somewhere, I would start with guns. If the Big O is elected in November I think we will see a shortage of ARs or an increase in prices due to panic buyers. Get another AR or AK, then work on ammo.

I also don't see them ever dropping.  At least not in the near future.

So maybe buying up as much as you can afford right now trumps having more guns.

Where?  Walmart's 100 rd WWB 9mm packs are 19.97, I was buying them for $15.72 a couple months ago.  That's a 30%+ increase.  When I started shooting 9mm 3 or so years ago, it was $9 and change.

Ammo.

Wait til later for gun purchases if you are holding out for something.

A lot of people are saying used gun prices will be lower next year. Lotta people are hurting for money.

Buy ammo.

When you buy more guns, buy more Glocks and more AR's.

If I was going to get an AK, I was going to try to find one in .223 like the SLR106.

but I think for now, I'll just buy some more cases of ammo.

A baseball bat makes a better club, and you can still use it if you run out of baseballs.

+1000

I just don't understand the idea of buying guns and not ammo, if anything you should never buy a gun if you can't afford to buy a good quantity of ammo at the same time for it.  I know a guy who's buying his third or fourth gun, and looking to buy more, but has done no significant ammo purchases.  Ammo is what makes a gun, without it its utterly useless.  Ammo will be just as endangered in the near future as any EBR, if not more so for a wider variety of reasons.

I'm squirreling ammo right now, but I am seriously thinking about liquidating some other stuff to get another AR as well. I'm already pretty much G2G on mags.

I haven't bought ammo at wal-mart since WWB 9mm was $10/100 and WWB .223 was $8/40. Having said that, the new CTD catalog shows some prices creeping back down a bit, and some deals are starting to show up online.

Unless an Obama victory causes a panic buy, ammo will go down in the next 3-6 months.

Ammo. If for some reason Obama gets it...they'll be panic buying like we have never seen before. I really want to buy an ACOG and finish--yes finish up my collection, but I think I'll be a buying a few thousand rounds of ammo first. What good is a gun that you can shoot. A paper weight.
