This is the massive online environment with a WWII setting, it was released on D-day and due to such high demand and everyone running out to buy a copy the servers have already crashed. These were servers that were set up to handle 2k people playing online per arena at a time! It's been hyped quite a bit and now it's out, it's expected to follow as historical a route as possible when it comes to online battles and the course of weapons development and their introduction as countries came into the war at various different times. This game should be really cool, not the greatest graphics but it's an absolutely massive environment that is a persistent universe. Only negative is it will cost 10bucks a month to subscribe to the service to play online, but the subscription guarantees you that cheaters will get banned and that admins and moderators will try to take care of you. I know a few of you were looking foward to this game.

It looks a little like Operation:Flashpoint, except in WWII, of course. Here's a FAQ page http://www.hq.wwiionline.com/faq_gameplay.shtml

Also some good reviews & debate up on http://www.lumthemad.net A brief quote from lum's review:
That being said. I feel if we did NOT warn people off of buying WW2OL, and informing them EXACTLY what they are in for, we would be remiss in our "jobs" as industry watchdogs. What do we need to communicate? In my view, these following opinions. (1) WW2OL is currently, for the great majority of people, unplayable. (2) WW2OL's developers are negligent in allowing WW2OL's release in this state (3) WW2OL's publishers are negligent in only being prepared for 600 simultaneous users on one server when a simple call to EBWorld would have given them a good idea of how many pre-orders they had (and don't kid yourself - they knew) (4) Until that negligence is rectified, you purchase WW2OL at your own risk, and not incidentally reward negligent behavior (5) WW2OL may well be a good game once repaired - our writers/readers do not agree on that point and in any case it most certainly is not for everyone.

Yeah, I was expecting a later release of around August or something. It had sounded like it was slated for release during late summer rather than early summer, sounds like they brought it to market entirely too soon. This game is supposed to bring together a complete online battle field, wanna be a grunt doing first person shooting with the small arms of the era then that is available to you, wanna drive a tank and blow crap up while hearing bullets bounce off your armour then that too is available, and ofcourse the battlefield wouldn't be complete without aircraft to rain munitions down on you. The game will hopefully get "fixed" soon, they've already got a patch out for the game that should hopefully fix some of the problems. Many games end up getting patched shortly after their release if not before they are even released so that I expected. There will probably be a great many patches for this game but we'll see. Just keep your eyes out for it and see if the reviews don't take a more positive spin in a month or so.
