Chuck Taylors have been around for almost a 100 years.

I begged for my first pair in teh second grade- $5.99 A pile of money, and even more begging. Skips were .99!
I still have Chucks, I dont wear them as often cuz now I have a job and buy Nikes, etc. But I still wear them from time to time. Maybe tomorrow.
Your kid is a kid, Chuck Taylors are Chuck Taylors.

We always called them Converse All Stars, high top or low top.  PF Flyers were pretty cool too, back in the day.

When did they start being referred to as Chuck Taylors?

edit  Nevermind on the question. I found the answer.

Ya you might want to wind down the Chuck Taylors at your age. I am 45 and would not wear them.

No, you're not too old.

Saying you're to old to wear Chuck Taylor's is like saying you're too old to wear tennis shoes period.  I didn't know someone could become too old to wear tennis shoes.

I'm 53 and I've got a pair of low tops.  I use them more for kicking around the house than anything else, but I wouldn't hesitate to wear them other places. Why not?  I don't give a rat's ass what most people think of me anyway.  My friends don't care what I wear and my clients hire me for my brains, not my looks.

And somehow I doubt people on the street are going to walk up to the big, ugly dude wearing the All Stars and the T Shirt that says "Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them" and tell me they think I look stupid.

no, I wouldnt recommend them on a 55 year old, they look like a kids shoes

the last time I saw someone over 55 wearing those was the streets of San Francisco, he was an older guy dressed in younger guys clothing, he looked weird.

My Chucks are lowtops, maroon.  I have two pair.

Chuck Taylor was a BB pro who went from town to town doing roundball clinics at high schools.  He would drop by the local shoe stores and make sure they had good stock, but when he did the clinics he never mentioned the Converses, but the kids sure went out and bought them.

He lived in hotel rooms on the road, never owned a home.  Back at the Converse factory they gave him a room that he kept his memorabilia and such.

And to this day they are still a good shoe.

Chucks are still hip.
