If the city wanted to build new homeless shelters in your neighborhood, would you welcome the proposal with open arms?

If they got rid of the half-way house for sex offenders that's 2 houses down from my place, sure. I'd be trading up.

Probably would be indifferent.  There are so many homeless people here already, I'd just chalk it up as an attempt to help hide our homeless problem just as they hide the gang problem.

Fuck no. There was a homeless camp/place near to the next town over from me. I forgot the name, but NYC would bus all the homeless up to this fucking camp and you'd always see them wandering around town drunk in tattered clothing and pushing stolen shopping carts from shoprite.

All the wandering homeless really hurt the towns image and property values. It's been a few years since they shut the camp down but the town still has that dirty hobo feel.

I think the overwhelming majority of homeowners would be against a homeless shelter, section 8 or other public housing going up around or near them as they worked to hard to buy in what they feel was a good enough area to call home to have that undermined.

My former brother bought in a nice new neighborhood in Raleigh and several years later some builder wanted to put in low end gov't sponsored affordable housing next to his neighborhood. The builder sought approval from the town to try and connect a road from his property into in my former brothers neighborhood. That obviously would allow what he felt was scum into his higher end area that he paid good money for. He and dozens of other neighbors went to several town meetings and went ape shit. He felt they were getting a jerk job from the town so he said fuck it and moved to Texas much sooner than expected. He sold his house in one day and said let the next sucker deal with the hood rats that were sure to come.

For this, I am eternally grateful. Well, that and living in the boondocks.

Secondly, a homeless shelter? Within five miles of one's home?

That, my friends, is twenty pounds of NOPE in a five pound bag. Fuck that, those things are a magnet for bag juju. Criminals, thieves, junkies, gangbangers,(Pronounced douchebags) drug dealers, hobo hunters, etc.

There are half-way homes all over my general area. One right down the street. Can't do shit about them but watch the residents whenever they are out at all hours of the day and night. Most are harmless but they are a nuisance.

Honolulu alone is going to spend $48M on fucking bums this year.  Yes, Forty Eight Million Fucking Dollars.

Apparently we have about 6,000 homeless in the entire state.

http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/breaking/20131121_HUD_says_number_of_homeless_in_Hawaii_up_86_since_2010.html?id=232936601

So if all of them were in Honolulu we'd only be spending $8K per bum.  My wife has treated plenty of them at work, and 99% of them get food stamps, SSDI, and other forms of assistance too, so I hate to think what the total bill is.

You're kidding yourself if you think there aren't homeless in Wisconsin.  They're all over Madison (which makes itself responsible for them, thereby attracting more homeless, of course).

However, they're still around, even in small communities.  I can personally verify homeless sleeping in vehicles and city parks of communities as small as 9,000, and I'd assume it goes all the way down to no community at all.

No.  I worked with the homeless (and criminals) for years.  I've had enough and certainly don't want them in my area.  Mind you, if a neighbor was poor and couldn't feed themselves, I would drop off extra food every now and then for them.  Charity should come from the heart and not at gunpoint (taxes).

Every person who pretends to be so passionate about the homeless cause should just invite one to live with them, and take care of.

Problem solved, no more homeless.

I know right.  How could anybody vote no.  Heartless bastards.  It is not like having a mass of homeless people next door would bring an influx of drugs, people with serious issues, and diseases.

NO.

So-called 'homeless' - in reality bums, addicts and indigent - are magnets for crimes like aggressive panhandling, vehicle break-ins, burglaries, muggings and the rest.
