I always hear an ad for [url=http://freecreditreport.com]FreeCreditReport.com[/url] on the radio. I dunno how they offer it free, if it's a membership thing, or what. But it's supposed to be free.
I'm not endorsing them. I've never used them. |

If you have a credit card (or probably debit card) you can get a credit report from Experian for $ 9 [url]https://www.experian.com/consumer/cac/02_Registration.jsp[/url]
There are lots of places that will provide you with a "free credit report" (search "experian" and you will find a bunch) usually they want to sign you up for some other service or there is some other scam involved. I'd spend the $ 9. You can also get a free credit report by applying for credit and being turned down, they then have to supply you with a copy of the report they used to turn you down. I still think the $ 9 and getting the report right away is the way to go. |

Don't the credit reporting companies have to, by law, provide you with one free copy per year upon request?

I really didn't have any credit, until I bought a house. Went through a mortgage broker, who used a few tricks to get me through, on a VA loan. I paid off the mortgage, but STILL can't get a credit card. I have no idea why....

When I used freecreditreport.com, which is actually consumerinfo.com they wanted my credit card info and then mailed me my password, it took 10 days to get to me. The best service I found is [url]http://www.creditexpert.com[/url] I signed up for the annual service and can pull my credit report anytime I want. I also get notified if anything changes on my credit report. |
