I think they're becoming obsolete.  This is the time of year I'll get a thick "Real Yellow Pages", the white book, another competing book, and my local city starts advertising to recycle last year's phone books.

Damn things take up space, most of the places I want to call locally I already know where they are so I'll just stop by, or if they have a web page I'll look up their number there.

Friends and family aren't in the phone book either and 1/2 the people I call it's to their cell phone which is unlisted since it's not a landline.   I haven't had a landline for 4 years now.

Only good thing about them is you might find a coupon or two you can use at a pizza joint and that's about it.  That and soaking them in water for ballistic tests.

I used one today. Needed to look up the number for the safeway three blocks from my house. I used dexonline.com, but got a list so long I couldn't find it in the mess.

Opened up the phonebook, second entry. Done.

Sometimes I would sit in the living room on the floor to clean guns. I would open the phone book half way and use it as a work surface. If if got hoppes or oil on no big deal.

I JUST used mine, less than a minute ago calling up Domino's.

I'm terrible at remembering phone numbers.

All the time.

They are always leaving new ones at my house though, they update it way too much.  I have at least 87 copies now.

You sir, must not be a road warrior.

When you stop by a new town, you can judge the places
that deliver to your hotel by their ads....Trust me.

I use the phone book all the time.

10.5 months out of the year ordering pizza and, calzones.

The only time I can see them being useful is if the power goes out and my Internet connection is down.

I use the local phone book a moderate amount.  That is, it certainly comes in handy on occasion and I always want to have the latest one.  I don't get as excited as Steve Martin in "The Jerk", but, you know, I get a little rush from it.

Stole my post.
That, and if I had a basement, I'd be saving mine to use as an Airgun backstop.

I still use a phone book for the same reason I use a day planner insteads of a PDA.  They are easier to use and no batteries to wear out.  I once had a PDA and when the battery prematurely failed, I went back to paper.
