I saw a teenager at the convenience store yesterday in some Mossy Oak pants and shirt.

With his damn pants way down on his thighs held up by a belt lookin like he had a huge load of shit in his pants.

Yes, this merchandising thing is getting ridiculous.  We must put a stop to it before it gets out of control.  Why, just the other day I saw some Beatles dolls for sale.  I'm sick of this shit!

Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:26:42 AM EDT
I just don't understand who's buying all that crap. I never see anyone wearing it but it seems to sell.

never seen the show, doesn't remotely interest me, but from what I've heard they sound like decent guys

I liked it when the show was about hunting and family. I'm tired of it now. People who never do anything in the woods are getting camo now.

It's pretty much how I can tell something has jumped the shark.

I've been meaning to watch the show and see what all the hubub is all about.

As far as the merch, I'm not too concerned.

At Walgreens the other day i saw a Chia uncle si and a Chia Wille Robertson.

I'm fairly tired of the camo / tactical / etc is cool thing.

Given I'm guilty of wearing camo, hunting gear and tactical stuff. But it's all party of my life. Not just a TV show or what's popular. I shoot IDPA, USPSA and 3 gun - typically weekly with a mid week practice. I've spent more days hunting this year then most people get vacation.

If you're just trying to be cool, cut that shit out. I love asking these guys who have the browning shirts on and hunting crap all over the place 'so how'd you do this season'? And they tell me some big story thats bullshit of how they got this monster deer or awesome elk. When I know they didn't even get out this season.

LOL, isn't the whole show based on some guys who have gotten rich from selling shit?

Selling merch isn't jumping the shark, it IS the shark.

Capitalism baby!

I don't watch the show, but it seems that everyone I see with the paraphernalia is one of those fake redneck types that drive monster lifted trucks and call themselves hunters, even though they've only gone once or twice. Usually are the kind who hang around in Wal Mart of Bass Pro and ask me what kind of dog I have when I'm coming back from the field (I've got an English Setter, but these big time "hunters" have 90% of the time never heard of the breed, and half of the time don't know what quail or chukar are). If they wanna buy that stuff, more power too 'em. But I really don't care one way or the other.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:32:44 AM EDT
I have a Phil air freshener in my car.

I don't even watch the show.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:33:49 AM EDT
Overexposed, this will not end well for them.

Nope,

They are a business making money.

I am a fan so i might get another shirt.

No, I mean when old guys and teenagers are wearing some gear with their underpants showing, the fad has officially jumped the shark.

The Chard and the Rose' are crap, but the Red Blend is actually pretty damn good.

I saw a few episodes of the show from my hotel, when I was traveling on business.

I don't get it (the TV show, it's popularity or half the stuff I've seen on the store shelves)
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:35:44 AM EDT
Nope I like them.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:36:30 AM EDT
Like the message; people/show are Ok.

Can't stand the merchandising.

The Robertson chia pets crack me all the way up.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:37:35 AM EDT
I've seen about 30 minutes of the show. They didn't do any hunting, so it doesn't interest me. I haven't paid attention to their marketing. Other than a T-shirt here or there, I haven't noticed.

Fair enough, but I would argue that a fad cannot jump the shark.  A particular style of dress can, however, and that moment occurs when it becomes a "fad."

So you're saying you have not picked up DD Chia Pet heads for Christmas yet?

shame
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:41:00 AM EDT
Meh. It's the trendy thing. I'm given to understand the show promotes conservative values like self-sufficiency, family, and hard work, so I reckon it's a better trend to have than, say, Toddlers and Tiaras.

Haven't seen an episode, but I did send the girlfriend a thanksgiving card that said "faith, family, and facial hair" and she got a big kick out of it. Probably helps that she's in LA so I guess it's even bigger down there.

I have no respect for them. They sold out, just shows everyone has their price.

I really used to enjoy their duck hunting DVD's, but now could care less.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:41:29 AM EDT
We like the show (the wife and I do) but we were amazed at the selection of duck dynasty crap at Walmart the other night next to the (actually somewhat stocked) ammunition cases.

Plush dolls?

Tea jugs?

Lots of random shit, all around 20 bucks?

No.

My company is paid to design and manufacture some of the equipment used in the manufacturing process of said merchandise.

Merchandise away DD crew.

I like the show because of their values, they are being overexposed.
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:47:02 AM EDT
Why do you hate capitalism?
Link Posted: 12/11/2013 11:48:59 AM EDT
They are overexposed and a whole lot of their merchandise will likely be appearing on Overstock.com in January or February.

I think the show may run for another year or two, but it is dangerously close to jumping the shark.
