Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - any truth to the rumor

Well a month  back I dropped off my dad's christmas&birthday  gift he has asked for since I was 12(17 years ago) A garand and 540 rounds of 30-06.
He said he was talking to Bill Saxbe and he  said the military was going back to the .45 acp as a the preferred caliber of sidearm choice. I know Bill is as honest as they come but can find nothing on this.
