One on route 2 going out of town, one at the ID-WA line where the speed drops from 45 to 35 on a downhill grade, another on the bridge crossing priest river going into WA where the speed limit goes from 35 to 25.
Those are the three spots you can count on police sitting there. |

Speed trap may be the most misunderstood term in the English language.

In Michigan? Let's just say I have more stretch of road that I know won't have cops than do. I can go months and never see a cop on an expressway, and I drive 40-50k mi a year.
Eta I take that back, the city of East Lansing has stupidly low speed limits and stupidly high police presence. When I was in college my 3mi drive to class was constant blaring of my radar detector every day for my whole drive. I'd consistently pass 3-4 different cops just on that drive. |

Nevada State Highway 318 between Ely and the 93, 318 and 375 ET Highway Junction is a good one. There is a rural area through Hiko very close to the junction. It drops from 70 to 45 and many of the first time truckers disregard the speed drop to their detriment. The NHP love to patrol there and write citations.

for me it's probably east bound I-10 in Louisiana between Vinton and Sulphur at mile markers 9 and 15.... it's a solid bet that if there is not an officer sitting there running radar, he's a 1/4 mile down the road with someone pulled over... here's a pic I caught of a Lambo at marker 15....note cruiser in mirror lighting him up....welcome to Sulphur.... http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=74147 View Quote Shoulda gotten Waze. |

I'm pretty sure GD will say anywhere a cop is parked for any reason at any time is a speed trap. Approach this thread accordingly. |

This county is littered with them. The main three I can think of are both county lines, and the city limits. The county lines are both set up so the speed drops from 55, to 45, to 35, within probably 150 yards. This whole county is funded by traffic tickets. The next county over has one main "trap" where a cruiser will back up a hill on a dead end side road shooting radar directly over onto the highway. If a speeder passes him he will radio ahead to a unit about a half mile up the road parked under an overpass who will immediately light you up even if you've dropped your speed. I've witnessed that multiple times.

The local cops set one up a few times a week in front of the school I teach at, I wouldn't want to know how much some of those tickets are.

Ohio doesn't need speed traps.
We have pot holes. Which is why the state highway patrol is bored. |

Every little town and a couple places along the highways. It's much more common to see them driving down the road than sitting in one spot though.

I was going to comment on that. A speed reduction coming into town on a straight section of highway is a speed trap... View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

A cop running radar behind a bush is not a speed trap. |

I don't know about a speed trap but enforcement is VERY heavy. I'll see some motorcops parked under a bridge hiding in the shadows for the unsuspecting coming into town. I hear they are, "just the facts" type of cops.

A fair amount of laser on the highways and an absolute boatload of speed cameras and laser on the surface roads.

Not sure I'd call them "Speed traps" but I know the places they tend to hang out.

Well it is Louisiana. Every little Podunk near an interstate has traps.
I49 has two that are probably known by quite a few people. One north of i10 around Washington. And another south in Jeanerette. Both towns have a huge surplus from speed traps. The Washington pd has had their pull outs and hides spiked a few times. But I guess replacing tires every now and again on the cruisers isn't a big deal when you are up in the hundreds of thousands in fines. Also On i10 as you come of the atchafaylaya bridge the Henderson pd usually lies on the down slope of the last rise. Another little Podunk. One of the cops there had to have the chief of police purchase his weapon as he wouldn't clear NICS to buy one of his own. |

WAZE has put a huge damper on all the known speed traps/police hiding places. Suppose actual criminals are being caught now Absolutely, love the app Waze |

Lol. Do you mean the speed reduction to 55MPH on the sign with giant orange flags hanging off the sides that you can see a mile out on the straightaway? Yeah they really sneak up on ya there. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Every road going from Texas to Louisiana.
70 mph to 45 mph without a notice, until an LA trooper starts pulling you over |

Walworth, Wi. If you are entering town from the south on Hwy 67, the speed drops from 55 to 35 as you enter town, and you better be doing <35mph when you pass that sign. There are parking lots to your right, and there is always a car parked and waiting.
Ask me how I know..... I didn't have to pay the ticket as it was bogus, and maybe because the officer offered to take cash at my car window, but they've got a steady revenue stream coming in from that speed limit sign. |

Waukomis Oklahoma. 65 to 45mph, The entire town is on one side of 81 only. Little to no cross traffic and no paved crossroad.
I have yet to drive through without seeing a Waukomis cop running traffic. Usually with someone stopped. Dover south of Waukomis is kind of the same way but they have a legitimate need to drop the speed to 35 as the town straddles 81. Not so much a speed trap as a drug trap but I-40 between Yukon and the Cherokee. If you're in a out of state vehicle and doing anything wrong you will be stopped and your shit tossed. |

Suwanee GA. I drive through there twice a day going to and from work.
The city police are known "revenue generators" and they pull some of the sorriest shit Ive ever seen, such as: 1) Have two cruisers in a gas station parking lot at a busy intersection with a cop standing on the sidewalk (by the main road) looking for people to wave-in for a ticket. It's a non-stop affair of ticket writing, every time the light changes a new batch of tax payers queues up. 2) they got me on this one: cop parks on the other side of a busy intersection that has a set of train tracks on one side of it. If someone stops short of the tracks the car behind will have the back of their car somewhat blocking a side street until the light changes. $125 fine for blocking traffic, even though its rush hour and there's nowhere to go once a car stops short. 3) got some city PD that consistently park their car at a busy red light on a divided parkway. When the light turns red he just walks between the rows of cars looking for someone to pull out of line for a ticket. |
