I'm looking at buying a cheap beater vehicle to drive to work and haul the kids around. I have a new Silverado but want another vehicle to help keep the new truck nice .  I found a 2001 ford expedition locally that is 2wd, 175,000 miles, 4.6 motor, good tires, normal wear on the inside and outside. No known mechanical issues. I can trade straight up an ar15 that I only have about $900 into (I have other rifles...). Should I fo?

Transmission shifts fine, unknown yet on the oil. I do know that the guy has owned it for the last 5 years, no accidents.

I had a 2001 Eddie Bauer Expedition.  Great truck.  Had 150K and it ran fine........  Until the brake lines rusted through and all braking was lost.  That was it for the truck.  Sold it in 2012 for an new Expedition.   I've heard from other owners that this is an issue in that vintage Ford.  Best to check that out before purchase.

I had an 04, I bought in 05 with 40k on the odometer. Which I think is the next gen from the 01.

I had pretty good luck with it.  I think we had around 205k or so on the odometer when we traded it in.

Maybe that's an up north problem? This truck has been in Georgia since new. I will still check it though
