What exactly is it that it needs to be listed like that on an ingredients list versus just 'Chicken'.

Do I even want to know??

ETA - you really didn't want to know.

Its the chicken meat that is left on the bone after the rest of the meat is cut off.

They use a wire brush to get it off, and you can make the argument that that method leads to a higher bonemeal content then normal meat.

Not only is it mechanically-separated, it's mechanically put back into edible chunks. It's Franken-chicken.

As if "it hasn't killed anyone" is somehow the standard by which food should be judged.

Because certain food-safe machine lubricants might have entered the meat. So it's not 100% meat. Maybe 99.999% meat.

Take any chicken meat and turn it into mousse using a food processor, and it's basically the same thing.  Not a good mouth-feel, but it's nothing to be afraid of either.

From that picture I'd say it looks like silly putty,  will it copy comics off of newsprint?

Very true. It's not something I desire to eat.

ETA: I choose to spend $4/lb on organic chicken. I don't have a problem with people eating it... Just not my thing.

LOL - it must taste OK since people are eating the products made from that stuff. Otherwise, there wouldn't be much a market for it, right?

I don't see any problem with the stuff - might as well use the whole chicken and not squander it.

I'll agree with you there.  It's apparent there's quite a market for it.

I'll also agree that there's no need to waste whatever is left on the carcass after all of that chicken is de-boned.

As to the taste, well, they could probably substitute tofu, cardboard or kitty litter for MSC and most folks wouldn't notice.  Between the fat, salt and whatever else is added to MCS products and the deep fried preparation, it's not as if it really tastes like chicken anymore.

One thing is certain.  I'm not going to have McNuggets for lunch.

A fellow that lives down the road from me told me about a plant near here last year.  He said they use high pressure water jets to remove the remaining meat from the bone.

I wouldn't choose it over a fried chicken leg, but for some uses "meat" is meat.

Mcnuggets have been all white meat for a few years now and p-good. Not as good as the spicy wendy's ones though.

Well, that WAS the standard for most of humanity's existence

Hell, they even paid folks to test the king's food just to make sure it didn't kill anyone (important)

I eat processed chicken parts...I don't care.

Pretty much. You should see it after you get done with it.

Hell, we eat sausage, that's ground up stuff, too. Just think of it as chicken pate' instead of "mechanically seperated".
