Wives hire other women to test 'cheating' men
More spouses paying 'honey-trap girls' to gauge husbands' fidelity

Suspicious wives are increasingly hiring so-called "honey-trap girls" to purposely come on to their husbands to test their commitments to their marriages.

According to a report in the Melbourne Herald Sun, women are paying licensed investigators to flirt with their husbands to see how they will react.

"It's a very rewarding job. I love it," Amber confessed to the paper. She had just spent time with a client's husband in a bar. The man, married four years with two young children, gave Amber his telephone number before the evening was over.

"I never let them kiss me, and it's not entrapment because I never ask them for anything," she points out. Entrapment, where the woman initiates contact with the man, is illegal in the area Amber plies her trade.

The woman explained she "smiled in a flirtatious way" when the man first entered the bar.

According to the report, clients are paying thousands of dollars for such fidelity checks. In Europe, the Australian paper said, a company called The Honey Trap is advertising for attractive recruits.

Don Doolan, president of the Association of Investigators and Security Professionals, told the Herald Sun demand for such services is booming in Australia.

"These techniques have always been used, but in the past 10 years there has probably been a five-fold increase," he said.

The process involves getting the attention of the "target" and then waiting for him to make the first move. Doolan says that often happens in a matter of minutes.

"Most blokes think below their belly button," Doolan told the paper.

The manager of another service, Kirri Cleaver of Gotcha Enterprises, says 40 percent of the targeted men do not tell the female investigator they are in a committed relationship.

One investigator shared an even worse statistic.

"In our experience, subjects are innocent in only about 10 percent of cases," Dalla Riva is quoted as saying.

Said Cleaver:"Women don't want to waste their time, or be used or have their heart broken. You buy a house, you're going to have it checked for rising damp, but you get into a relationship and nobody asks any questions."

That's just evil and wrong.

A man than would never cheat in normal circumstances, might cheat when a women clearly out of his league makes herself available.

For that reason, these types of services are rarely an accurate indicator of fidelity.

Also add that if a man gets it at home he is way more likely to NOT look for it somewhere else. I hate when they go after the man like this.

All you women wise up! You want the paychecks but can't understand that the man wants the poontang! That's just how it is! NEVER gonna change (Procreation)

One good thing - if you passed the test, you could probably cheat on your wife all you wanted after that.

One thing about being an average looking 40 year old.  If some bodacious young thing starts making move toward me, someone HAS to be paying her!

People (men or women) are either loyal or they are not. They are either cheaters or they are not. No amount of circumstances will change this.

I see no problem with "Honey-trap" girls.

My ex actually tried that, not with a paid individual, but with one of her bar-room buddies. I was out with some friends one night and this woman starts hitting on me. I don't know why, but for some reason I could tell it wasn't the real deal. I kept referring to "my wife and daughter" in conversation with her. I could tell she was getting frustrated. It was sweet. A short time later, I found out my wife was cheating on me (no surprise).

Exactly.
I have a whole theory about this, it is pretty simple.
Sure I would cheat on my wife if two swim suit models started hitting on me.  But that just ain't going to happen.  So my wife is safe.

If a sexy girl smiled at me in a flirtatious way when I walked into a room, the 1st thing I'd do is look behind me to see who she's smiling at![rofl2] I would always pass this test as I believe fidelity in a marriage is of supreme importance, & my heart wouldn't allow me to cross that boundary. I won't flirt with a woman no matter how beautiful or provocative she is to me. Period. I would be very angry at my wife if she wasted our money to find out what I already proved to her for years.

A woman clearly out of my league trying to pick me up is a SURE sign of a setup. Could be a "honey-trap" or something MUCH worse , such are robbery. Never trust ANYONE !

Ha. My wife points out honeys that I might have missed as we drive down the road.

Bring it on, no fear. Wait, nevermind. [:)]

I would wait until my son has graduated and moved out of the house, then I would kick her ass to the curb.

I'd get a good laugh out of it and turn it to my advantaqe.  I know that a woman such as described wouldn't even look at someone like me UNLESS she wanted something.  (As an aside, I love doing this in a Casino.  Women ignore me UNTIL I pull out a large wad of bills.  I do get attention and smiles.  So, that tells me what I need to know).  ANyway, she'd have to initiate contact (which the premise of the story says she can't), and then she would get a lot of "yes, ma'am, and no ma'am" out of me.  It might have an interesting impact on her confidence as some women have been used to people falling all over them all their lives. And, if I really felt like having some fun, a lecture on the dangers of trying to pick up men in bars.  So, as a practical matter, I would not fall for it.  As a moral matter, I would not cheat on my wife: it is a betrayal.

We used to have some shit-bag Private Investigators here in Tulsa who went by the name "Check-a-Mate" doing the same damn thing because they couldn't get a REAL job. Don't get me wrong, I have worked in law enforcement a long time and I know a lot of good PI's in the area and some of them make more criminal arrests (or referrals for prosecution) than a lot of Detectives I know, so please don't think that I am biased against PI's. Hell, I may become one after I retire soon.

ANYWAY, the aforementioned shit-bags do great for a few weeks and make all the local news channels, but it's not enough to keep them in business. Leave them alone and they will dry-up and blow away soon enough. They're a curiosity more than enything else, but they don't get enough paying customers to keep the office doors open.

IMHO, if a man's (or woman's) spouse thought so little of their relationship, they should go ahead and get a divorce anyway and save the money for attorney/filing fees. Their marriage is already in the dumpster. [toilet]

edited because I still can't get the damn spell checker to work!

Women generally are interested in me.  If I keep gaining weight the numbers start to dwindle.  If I am at my "fighting weight" the numbers soar.  The Last "fighting weight" was ten years ago.

Does no one else see this as initiating contact?  Not to mention I see a big difference in flirting with someone at the bar when out with the guys and actually taking them home.

"smiled in a flirtatious way"

BWAhahahaha.   Yeah, RIGHT!

I kinda liked the last one in the poll. Once you notice that it's a setup, do it right back to her.

Everyone will cheat given a good enough offer.

The problem with that is, the sweeter the offer (and it would have to be reeeeal sweet, mind you) the more I'd be suspicious that something was up.

No dice.

Great, just what we need. More women paying other women to be a tease.
And yes I can see my wife trying this to me

If hot chicks didn't come on to you when you were single, why would they come on to you when you're married? I would be extremely suspicious of any hot chick coming on to me. [BD]

in oz the men treat women like crap, so this must be some kind of payback?  catch them in the act then take 'em to the cleaners....

I don't know if you're married or not (I'm not) but haven't you ever noticed when you're in a relationship women seem more attracted to you?  Hell, some become more attracted when they FIND OUT you're in a relationship.  They like that you can commit to someone, but they don't figure out that if you leave for them you're not very committed.

I find these little "entrapment" things pretty amusing.  One of the talk shows awhile back was doing this.  I'd love to be in a relationship where I passed this kind of test, you'd be king shit after that.

Yes.  It's extremely disturbing how women can pick up on that. When you're miserable and lonely, no woman wants anything to do with you, it's next to impossible to get any kind of relationship or affair going.

When you're happy, content, got a girl who loves you? They throw themselves at you, you dont even have to try.  It's so strange how they can instinctively tell.

stupid pos ex tried something similar with me.
She told me about guys at work asking her out and giving her phone numbers.

I basicly replied "so?" why should I not trust my so called "wife"?

come to find out she made those things up in order to get my jealous and/or find out if I 'loved' her or not.
stupid ass womenz

The last time a woman out of my league started hitting on me, I woke up in the bathtub full of ice with a note telling me my kidneys were gone. [;D]

Seriously, I might talk to the woman...but never ask for her number, or if she wanted to do a little horizontal dancing.
It's not in my conscience to cheat.

I think there's something going on that we're not being told.  The premise of the study is that women want to find out if their husbands are faithful.  For a few, that might be true, but I doubt that is the case for the majority.

As an economist, I'm all about finding the incentive.  What incentive does a woman have to "bait" her husband?  If she's worried about losing her husband's interest (and fidelity), why not talk with him or make an effort to be a better wife?  Certainly a lot more productive than baiting him.

One obvious incentive here is that these women are looking for a way out.  They want out of the marriage, and they know that they can come out far ahead with some leverage against their husbands.  It's highly probable that the marriage is already on the rocks.  Communication, sexual intimacy, etc. are already nearing non-existance, and so the man is already vulnerable.  I bet many of the women are unfaithful themselves.

Any woman who has a good physical and emotional relationship with her husband wouldn't feel the need to bait him.

In summary, these women want out.  They want an excuse, and they want leverage so they come out ahead (money, children, house, etc.) in the divorce.
Link Posted: 12/22/2003 7:57:13 AM EDT
I'd like to add that I'd definately pass any such "bait" test.  I don't know how to flirt with anyone else but my wife.  I don't go to bars.  I don't drink, so my judgement wouldn't be impared.  I'm about 20 pounds overweight.  I'm not trendy nor do I drive any nice cars (minivan and commute car are all we have).  Simply, if anybody flirts with me it would have to be a setup.  I wouldn't even know how to respond.  Besides, with a wife, kids, and a house to take care of, who has time for affairs?
