Police: Sausage bandit tries to flee on bicycle

GOLDSBORO — Authorities say a man pedaling away with stolen sausage was stopped on his bicycle in a Saturday night police chase.

Officers tried to approach a bicyclist carrying a large bag near A Street and North George Street around 11:49 p.m. The man, later identified as 55-year-old Roger Raynor, tried to flee from an officer and was caught along the railroad tracks near A Street, Maj. Anthony Carmon of the Goldsboro Police Department said in a statement.

Police say Raynor “was in possession of a large amount of frozen meat” that had been stolen in vehicle break-ins at Neese’s Country Sausage, 2009 U.S. 117 North Bypass.

Raynor was charged with four counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and one count each of misdemeanor larceny, first-degree trespass and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer.

He was booked into the Wayne County Jail under a $9,500 secured bond.
