The border manoeuvres came as up to five pro-Russian militants were killed in an operation to clear what Kiev authorities described as 'terrorists' near the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk. “Europe should be prepared for even the blackest scenario with regards to developments in the Ukraine,” Tusk said. According to the Polish prime minister, “no one is prepared” for the outbreak of armed conflict in the region. He added that Europe is only in the process of drawing up a response.

I've Always loved the little tail gunner section on the TU-95 Bear. As a lid these was a book (no interwebs and cold war) at the local library with a Bear launching a huge cruise missile that I thought was mega cool.

On the other hand at least we have visual confirmation on which side the BBC is on

Gee, do you think there was a plan in place when the Obama administration said 5 years ago, if we promoted drilling now, and started building refineries now, it would take 5 years for us to see any benefits from it? Funny how things work out.

Too late for that, the time to send them was a year ago or maybe a couple years ago. No, there will be another massive die off of Ukrainians soon, and they will be entirely supplanted by Russkies this time. We are going to see genocide on levels not seen since Cambodia or the mid forties.

Or they could raise their defense spending a bit.

Just under two percent of GDP, after a recent increase. Dig deep, Poland. History and geography have not been kind to you; I'd think we'd see 2.5%+ at least...

Yup, NATO has been asleep for a long time and now they're going to have to wake-up to the fact that the Russians just as in the past really, really want to be in charge.

NATO, militarily right now is not in the best of shape. Time to beef up defense spending and we need to start leaning on them to do that, because those socialists over there aren't going to do it themselves.

Many nations right now have large unemployment among their young in Europe. I would say it is the ideal time to increase conscription for them.

It's not about the money. It's about showing meaningful support of an ally.

The USA brings in close to $3 trillion in tax revenue every year. It's time we got our priorities straight and started to spend money where we'll see an actual return. Stronger defense and US projection translates directly into great global stability, trade, and wealth for the USA.

Let's get stronger by focusing ourselves to a task as a nation to break the Russians.

I guess it must be pretty obvious that Europe isn't at all ready to deal with the Russians for them to speak so plainly about it. The last thing I'd do is confirm that my country is nearly helpless to stop the Russians.
