Ooohh, your big ass fuckin' pictures are killing my cable modem! I don't know how soon I can ever get back to looking at porn unless your gigantic fucking pictures get done downloading! Fuck! This is taking for fucking ever! You pole smoking bastard! The pictures are so big, my eyes are burning! My monitor just used so much electricity the damn electric outlet strated to smoke! The greedy cock-sucking capitalist electric utility company and Time Warner just called to thank you for posting those pics and wasting electricity and using up my allotted download bandwidth for the month and running up my bill. I needed to piss, but I am riveted by your fantastic pictures that are downloading line by line, pixel by pixel. I'll just piss down my leg, instead. Go back to sucking down your body temperature protein shakes from your man and stop posting such gigantic pictures in your goddamn posts! Finally you picture has downloaded. What could it be that was so big and important? "Cool Story Bro!" Holy fuck on a midget tit! I wasted all this effort to see your over used internet-savvy picture? Do everyone a favor and mix a bottle of aspirin into your Halloween candy before you eat it, you 350 lb air-soft poser. Fall asleep and choke to death on your fat uvula, bitch.

OK, I simply wanted to know what is the point of posting "56K go away!" Does anyone still have a slow internet connection? Is your penis so small you need to tell me how big your pictures are that you just posted?

Too long, couldn't read my dialup modem stopped at the second sentence.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:26:55 AM EST
Seriously?
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:27:19 AM EST
Just another silly way to "be cool" on the internet. Yeah, 56K is still out there, but not even close to being as prevalent as it was 10 years ago.

Yes ,some are still on dial up. Now lets talk about your weak ass upload speeds broadband snob.

ETA: How much does your broadband cost a month?

In ref to 56k, I had to drive my dad down to the phone company to get him to upgrade to DSL. I think he is much happier with it but my gawd it took me 2 years worth of bitching to get him to switch.

Took me even longer to get him to dump his pos television with a bad tube. Of course he opted to go for a similar size LCD instead of upgrading in size.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:38:49 AM EST
What does it hurt by putting it on your topic that is picture intensive? It takes about a second to do and could save someone who has 56k a lot of time.

Yes, sadly that is all there is to it.

ARFCOM has lots of "rural" residents that have no other choice besides dial up.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:43:30 AM EST
Where's the pictures?

Your title promised lots of pics, and I don't see any. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nope.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:45:22 AM EST
Hey, I was 56K until about a year or two ago. I refuse to pay more than $10 a month for internet at home.
When AT&T finally dropped their prices down to where I could get high speed, I got high speed.

I have friends who live in rural WV that say they can't get high speed. I can't imagine the internet on dial up. What's the point?

I'm on dial-up whenever I'm at my mountain house in North Carolina. So yes, some people still use it.

I'd have patience to check mail and then get back off.

Hell I just got rid of 14.4 last month....

Yes 24.4K modem.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 6:59:23 AM EST
My family still lives on 56k (45.4k, actually) because high-speed internet doesn't exist in their area.

Do people really use what they pay for? Hell i can have all types of things going on different pc's and never really notice a slowdown on my end and i'm only on 10/1.5 service.

Advertised #'s seem a little off and fluctuate though.

9.30 Mb/s 9.07 Mb/s 35 ms
9.82 Mb/s 7.45 Mb/s 25 ms
9.53 Mb/s 6.27 Mb/s 13 ms
9.82 Mb/s 4.46 Mb/s 20 ms

I wish I had 56K speed on my dial up. You have any pull with AT&T to get them to install DSL in my area???
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 7:25:40 AM EST
Yes, my friend. His mom refuses to get DSL or cable for some weird ass reason (they currently have AOL).

She is an obamabot liberal who hates guns too. That might explain something
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 7:27:12 AM EST
I never used a dial-up connection for internet access.

I have had had high-speed of one form or another close to 15 years now.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 7:33:08 AM EST
I'm doing great!! I have 128K and its only $88 per month!!!!!
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 8:26:02 AM EST
My ATT DSL is a lot slower than my old dial-up service was.

I appreciate being warned that it's picture laden; I don't open those threads at work, or when I'm on my mobile phone, or on slow pipe.

Anyone here ever game on 56k?

You kids nowadays complain about lag.

Saved my ass up until this last August when I went from 24k to broadband.

Finally got an option out here in the stalks.

My sister and BIL still use dial-up... dunno why, though, they have good jobs, one that requires some work from home over the internet, even. DSL and Cable are both options where we live (I live about a mile away)... I guess it's just not high on their priority list.

Link Posted: 11/4/2009 1:14:30 PM EST
Err that warning stops me from looking at those threads on my phone...so it's still good.

Most rural areas can get 3G mobile broadband service. The major companies out there have a 5 gig cap, but I know of at least one company (rumored to run on Verizon's network, which is plausible since Verizon is the only company with decent coverage around the farm) had an unlimited plan for $70/month.

My $.02.

Well, I could get satellite, but I've heard the issues aren't worth the $$.

I wish we still had BBS, Prodigy, and Hayes 1200bps modems......

Sorry for quoting my own post but after some of the prices in this thread i'd suggest everyone and their friends call and complain to your isp and also call outside companies to request service in your area.

Moral of the story is the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The area i'm in is one of a few in the state that a company came in and layed alot of fiber. It was a pain in the ass at first because they broke everything they could but in the end i get those speeds for 20$ a month(no contract) and for i think 5$ more could get 15 or 20mb service. From my understanding this is the same type that that shit bag non CS company called verizon calls fios(FTTP).

Compared to many countries we are behind.

Woah! Slow down there mister. I'm still trying to get my 150bps connection under control.

Yep.
A lot of people don't have a cable option around here.
Link Posted: 11/4/2009 1:51:10 PM EST
Yes.

There are parts of the US that barely have cell service, might have DSL, and sure as shit don't have anything like cable Internets.

Last year I was in a fairly remote part of PA. I had to use dial up to get on the Interwebs. It sucked since I was used to either DSL, cable, or something faster.

And the folks there liked it that way.

Did you notice all the people posting that high speed is unavailable in their area?
eat crow
If I post a "pic heavy" in my thread title, I assure you I'm not trying to "look cool on the internet", or attempt to convince you that my penis is bigger than it is.

It's just a courtesy.
