Twas the night before sunset and all through my crib,
No criminals astir, not even a Lib.

The children excited and all filled with glee,
Come early morning no more AWB.

They finally settled in all snug in their beds,
Vision of flash suppressors danced in their heads.

My Glock and hi-cap on the bed side stand,
Thank God tomorrow no silly ban.

New uppers and lowers awaited down stairs,
Just a few hours more they'd be mated in pairs.

I sat there and pondered with a Bombay in hand,
I could hardly contain my pent-up elan.

The silence was broken by the slightest of din,
I rose to my feet as I swallowed my gin.

I tucked in my Glock as I opened my door,
870 at the ready as I crept down the floor.

I cleared each room as I checked on the boys,
Now, down the stairs, to check on my toys.

My mind started racing, "who could this be",
Someone intent to harm my family and me?

I slipped through the kitchen all quiet with stealth,
It was about to get bad for my new intruders health.

I noticed my front door stood slightly ajar,
I swept right to left and there by my bar.

Stood a lone figure I could see with my eyes,
Just a heart beat away from meeting his demise.

I clicked on my Tac-Lite, turned night into day,
Then stood there speechless with nothing to say.

My mouth all agape as I stood there in pause,
And wondered aloud, "Are you Santa Claus"?

A chuckle, a grin, a slight wink of his eye,
He turned back around without a reply.

He set to his work as if I weren't there,
I poured me a drink and stood there and stared.

He opened the cases of my toys that awaited,
And assembled fine weapons as the ban had abated.

When he had finished, he looked up with pride,
"You are accountable" he said in a chide.

"Your fathers before you made it come to be,
They laid down their lives so that you would be free.

"Do not again let your rights be infringed,
On your shoulders your freedom is hinged."

Twas gone in a whisp though these words I heard more,
"Remember, vote Bush in this Two Thousand and Four!"

I sat there in silence a few hours longer,
Minute by minute my conviction grew stronger.

For 'tis the duty of one and for all,
To keep this great nation forever standing tall.

I whispered a prayer with no one in sight,
"God bless our troops who continue the fight.

"And God bless America and all who believe,
We all thank You dearly for the blessings we receive."

God bless and Semper Fi!

Thanks, as it did me while I wrote it. It almost seems fitting that this expires only days after the anniversary of 9-11. We must always stand vigilant.

"Ahh, but remember we who will dare,
Even amongst those who do not care.

"We stand in our belief and all that is right,
We will never lay down if still able to fight!"

Me again, just now. Damn, that was almost Shakepearian.

Thanks! It just came to me and I decided to write it down and post here. Then, I decided to email to a few friends. Now, I'm wondering if it's worth passing on any place else. I guess I was hoping for some feedback here. A lot of reads but just a few replies, so far.

Especially looking forward to replies from some of the "Old Timers" like my "good friend and esteeemed colleague from Texas, Eric the Hun. Also...

Bookhound,
The Beer Slayer,
GoatBoy,
And possibly the Grand Poh Pah himself, Mr. Avilla, the senior. Who knows? Never had "The Man" respond to any of my posts.

I would also say 'Post it on DU', but those folks would never get it.

They don't 'get' the Second Amendment.

I emailed this to a couple of friends after I posted here and received good feedback, as well. I was wondering there really is a few "good" places to send it (not DU, but places that might appreciate and repost it). Any thoughts?
