It is a device about the size of a hand held GPS.
You screw a small butane bottle into the bottom, slide a "repellent" card into a slot in the side, and turn it on, and sit it on a flat surface.
The box claims that after 10 to 20 minutes... it will repel all flying insects for a 15' to 20' radius (depending on conditions), and one refill will last for 12 hours continuous use.

Bought one ($29.99) and took it hunting this weekend deep in the woods in North Fl.
On the hike into the woods (before using the device) we were being eaten alive by mosquitos...big ones.

I got to my blind, turned on my mosquito gadget...and continued to swat mosquitos and "dog pecker gnats" for another miserable 5 minutes...then...suddenly, the bugs were ALL GONE!.
I did not see another mosquito, or gnat, or any other annoying bug for the rest of the day (except when I ventured 20 feet away from the device a couple of times)
That is amazing for Florida.

I used it twice.
I was highly impressed...this thing works

How much are the refills and where do you get one?

We bought ours at a little hardware/sporting goods store in the town where we were hunting.

It comes with 3 refills, and the ones sold seperately are pretty inexpensive.

I will post a picture of the gadget when I get a chance.

But do you think the birds or other game are able to smell it??

Could you smell it??

Is it the same as the big one that covers an acre or 2? Puts off CO2.

No, The repellent cards that come with it are odorless...you cant smell it (unless you put it up to your face which is bad for you)

It does not seem to scare off deer or other animals, because several other hunters we talked to used them, and bagged deer with no problem...and there were birds, and squirrels around me the whole time I was using it.

One guy even told us he dropped a little bit of buck lure on his repellent card...I would immagine that smelled pretty bad though.

After investing $300.00 bones on one of these and going through $60.00 bones worth of propane I called the company and politely asked for a refund!

It did not work!

Find a link or something..sounds like a winner.

I also notice how all of us Florida/Texas members are all over this thread.

A coworker was just telling me about these things - says it works great.

No, this gadget actually puts off some kind of repellent chemical (cant remember the name off hand)
Says not to use it in enclosed spaces.

THATS IT...WORKS GREAT
They make one that is plain white also (I got the camo one)
They also make a lantern that does the same thing (I think it has a bigger area of effect though)
Looks like a little Coleman lantern.

I dont know how those "Co2" things would work...because mosquitos are attracted to the Co2 you exhale.
I think they may be designed to "decoy" the mosquitos away from you.
