It was a relaxing evening at the quijanos house in South Texas; the breeze was blowing a mild 100 degrees, the birds were singing, the pit was warming up for a possible dinner pic, yarded needed mowing . . .

infamous pit used in dinner pics

. . .. but wait ,....wuh?, ..... WTF is that moving in the corner ???

[mybest Sp1Grrl voice] "Hai Yah!! Take that you spineless vermin", "Hai Yah, Hai Yah" [/mybest Sp1Grrl voice] (chopping/shovel noises......)

In the end, the day (of snake killing) didn't turn out all that bad except I couldn't identify the intruder?
I'm no snake expert (i.e., didn't even know if it was poisonous or not) but, my children play in this same yard aaaaaaaannnnnnnndddddd I'm not going to take any risks on this guy or any of his family.

Any of you manly men here got knowledge of this thing?

+1 snakes are not bad at all . I was to raised to think any snake larger than an earthworm was a maneater . I have vivid memories him chopping up a green snake that was MAYBE 8 inches long . He single handedly won WWII and he's afriad of tiny little snake minding it's own bidness .

The only real time snakes bother me is when I unexpectedly discover were one is .

Screw the snake... I have the same grill - I love it - better than the $500 one at Home Repo. I like the surround that you did - looks great.

A most challenging adversary.

Snakes are cool. I have kids. Leave 'em alone and benefit from their appetites.

Its probably a bull snake it will kill and eat rattlesnakes should have let it live. Get to know your snakes, kill the rattlers then eat them and make hatbands out of them.

You Snake Murderer you! I'm calling PPETA! May they take your hunting dog and give him a poodle cut and may they raise your children to be whinie democrates. and gun haters.

Actually that is a good snake. ROUND eyes - non-poisionous. Eyes on SIDE of head - scared, looking out both ways for predators - birds of prey.

Poisonous snakes - narrow, slanted eyes, both eyes facing forward - to focus on their victum.

No go out to the trash can and see if you can sew that fellow back together. Or bar-b-que what ya killed.

Shovel works good.

IIRC There are 25+ species of rattle snake in the US. All have rattles and a triangular shaped head.

Just do a google search and you'll find thousands of pictures.

Coral Snakes are brightly colored with red, yellow, and black bands. Coral snakes have yellow and red bands that touch and a black nose. If the touching bands are red and black it's a milk snake.

Cottonmouths are dark brown and black with white lips and a bright white mouth.

Copperheads are usually tan and brown with copperish leaf shapes markings.

Yep, those and the ones that could cause me to need a fasciotomy.

ETA: This thread cracks me up.. "2 headed kid" and "shovel with instructions" and "shoot THEN shovel then stfu"..

There are some damn sissies on this forum. I could tell the poisonous snakes from the good snakes when I was just a kid (weren't any of you boy scouts?), and spent a lot of time making temporary pets out of the good kind. How do you like knowing that. Don't you feel a bit girly knowing that a little kid had more spine than you do?

Its the weekly "look at the snake I killed thread"!! Awesome. Keep your head down Q, the whiny snakelovers.com crowd is set to attack.

coachwhip maybe.

Red racer also a possibility.

Bull snake it isn't and they do not eat rattlesnakes.

WAIT A MINUTE!

How many eyes did that snake have? Was it wearing a turtle neck?
I think this is a thinly veiled attempt at an emasculation!

Run!

No doubt its a decent grill and the built in works nicely. However it won't be seeing any mousetrap snake.

Now more about the 'produktion':
It took me all evening (read: 15mins) to compose and edit the script and then go thru the photo's.
Thanks for the compliments on my work but I really owe my inspiration to SP1Grrl.
Without her I don't know what I would've done.
She is the driving force behind my shovel.
Link Posted: 8/27/2005 10:34:37 PM EDT
Looks to me to be either a rat snake or corn snake, both of which are harmless. But sometimes you must react quickly in tense situations.

Remember, poisonous snakes have a more "spade" shaped head where as the non-poisonous snakes have a more straight, narrow head.

It also ends up hurting more if they bite you.
