If you are talking about stacked separates, then the only downside is small capacity.

If you're talking about one of these... RUN AWAY!

All-in-one washer/dryer combo.

The one I used at a condo rental took FOREVER to do one complete cycle.  And that seems to be a common complaint, unless you spend $$$$$ for a top-of-the-line condensing steam version.

Many years ago I had a stacked Kenmore set.  Worked great, but as has been mentioned small capacity.  Since I was single that didn't matter.

ya i was talking about one of those^. i was at home depot and they told me you can stack any regular new style front loads too with a stack kit. but it seems like the controls would be way up high on the top one.

I used an all in one unit for about a year.  Put the dirty clothes in and they come out clean and dry.

Downsides for my unit was small capacity, cycle took a while, clothes were sometimes wrinkled at end of cycle.

It did save space and was convenient I. That you put dirty clothes in and the get washed and dried.

I would choose a stacked unit though or a washer and dryer any day of the week.

We used a combo unit for a while.  It was a hulking piece of shit. It could only do small loads.  2.5 hours per cycle and then you had to hang all your shit up to finish drying.  I would rather take my stuff to a laundromat and pay them to do it rather than deal with that abomination of a machine.
