well honestly ive sorta known it for a while.. im 33... for the first time since i was a child i now have a primary Dr that i make yearly checkups with... that was my first real sign that im getting old...

today i went to the mall with my step daughter... we were doing some shopping for her mom... this year i wanted to get her something NOT firearm related...
we looked at some jewelry that i know nothing about and decided i should learn something about it before paying a lot for something that may very well be worthless...
so i decided on some perfume...
i know that i smell... but turns out my nose does not... thankfully my step daughter was there to help and we found something that she said her mom would like...
then the wonderful fella behind the counter offered a few to the kid (shes almost 14)... she found one that she liked...

paid $55 for one and $45 for the other... i thought to myself "ehh sounds about right $100 to make the wife and kid happy im all for it"....
i googled each of them when i got home...

in reality...
for the wife - $15.24 http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Crystal-Parfum-Spray-Women/dp/B0051S594I
for the kid - $16.87 http://www.amazon.com/Passion-WOMEN-Yves-De-Sistelle/dp/B003EAIWKI/

damnit... i hate being out of my element... from now on they both get nothing but firearms...

Old at 33?  Okay - everybody that wishes they were 33 again on Arfcom raise their hand!

Just forge on ahead - no matter how much you prepare yourself, you'll still make mistakes.  Look at it this way, your daughter got to shop with her dad and help him pick something out for her mom - I guarantee that will be an experience she remembers.  Also, learn to bargain; it is equivalent to shot placement in the shopping world.

Another thing about being "past ones prime" is that everything starts to slow down. Including the thought process recognising that you're past your prime.

no nono pic is 2 years old... i did good that year and hid it behind the tree all a christmas story style...

theres a light weight AR in the safe for the kid this year... wife already has a few ARs
i WAS going to get the wife the m&p22 since she loves her m&p9 so much (she has a 22/45 already.. she does 2 pistol matches and 1 shotgun match a month)
and i WAS going to get the kid the sr22 or the p22 since she likes them both but i was holding out since she has really been getting into shooting sporting clays... she borrows a ruger redlabel but they want some serious coin for those suckers so ive been holding out to make sure she is going to stick with it...
then it dawned on me that MAYBE i should get her something thats not a firearm... ya know.. make her feel like a woman and such...
its really my own dumbass fault...

dont worry im not just a total guntard... but it is a hobby that i really enjoy and have gotten back into (as an adult) in the last few years... my wife also grew up with firearms but they were part of being a military brat... it been in the last few years that she discovered women can get involved in this "mans game"... neither of us wants anything to do with bars/clubs anymore so friends in our age group do not happen often...  we know weve got the rest of our lives to figure out different things that we enjoy

True, my knees sound like they're full of gravel when I walk down the stairs in the morning, hangovers last all day instead of an hour, and I don't shrug off injuries like I used to, but at least I have bitch'in stories now.  So there's always a trade off.  All in all, it's still in the positive.

33 means you should be taking advantage of your man muscle.

No. Not that one.

Man muscle is all of the muscle built up during your 20s. For all of the disadvantages of aging, you build a thicker frame as you age. And if you continue to work out, you will be a certain kind of strong.

You lose speed, but gain that strength.  Man muscle.

Okay, maybe I'm a little fatter and slower, but I'm a hell'uva lot smarter, and I can still shame the young'uns if I want to.....

Super good advice I got from a 40 year old when I was 28.  "Workout or get old, your choice".
Add to that that your body is a chemistry set requiring over 90 nutrients every day made up of vitamins and minerals.  Keep your digestion supported with probiotics ( especially if you have had antibiotics ) and digestive enzymes.  Get rid of the bad foods.....artificial sweeteners, preserved meats, rancid oils, sugar, white flour and white rice, fast foods and other processed foods. Avoid vaccines and pharmaceuticals whenever possible. Fluoride is a poison.
Avoid GMO foods and eat as natural and organic as possible.
The guy who gave me that advice is now 80 and does 100 mile bike races and plays raquette ball on alternating days from weight lifting.
I think his advice was pretty darn good. I am 68, in perfect health, riding a CBR1000rr. Just took California Superbike School. Working out every day..
Take care of your body and it will see you healthy to a ripe old age.

Past your prime? What kind of shape are you in?

You can perform physically (if you maintain the machine) well into your 40's.

A guy I train with occasionally is a prior world record holder in the squat. He can still squat more than almost everybody in the gym and he weighs about 155.

He's also 62.

i have a shape now... theres 6'1" 290lbs of it... it was a lot better but i got hit by a car and that ruined my knee and my ability to mountain bike... after that i found comfort in beer and naps... things went downhill pretty quickly for the next 9 years... went through some low points in life and things have gotten a lot better since then... the extra weight and constant kneeling have not helped a thing when it comes to my knees... im on my feet and on the move everyday all day for work (commercial hvac/r service tech) but in a week i start a new job as an "in house" engineer/facilities guy for a hospital... im thinking with less kneeling and a job that does not run my ragged all day id like to get back into better eating habbits... who knows maybe ill get back into some sort of exercise other than reloading and working..
i quit drinking (booze and soda) a few months ago and have never been a fan of fastfood/frozen meals.. there is always something green on my plate... however i only eat once a day and im usuially asleep an hour later.. i dont eat deep fried food, chips, much red meat or sweats (with the exception of this time of year halloween candy must be eaten or ghosts will haunt you)

Past your prime? What kind of shape are you in?

You can perform physically (if you maintain the machine) well into your 40's.

A guy I train with occasionally is a prior world record holder in the squat. He can still squat more than almost everybody in the gym and he weighs about 155.

He's also 62.

Alright, well I've always been pretty active from a young age and have never done the sedentary lifestyle thing. I started lifting weights when I was 12 years old and have been doing it for so long that if I sit still for more than a couple days I start to go crazy. I started getting really into powerlifting in the last couple years and completely dedicated my diet and training program towards my lifting goals. I blew up to 240 lbs (not fat, still had abs) and got strong as fuck. My best squat was 585 which is decent for a guy with my frame.

Got bored with it and bailed out of town for a few months, just took a break from lifting entirely. I dropped down to 220 and decided to focus more on a balanced (cardio/weight) training program that I'm used to.

The point of this long winded response is centered around your knee problem. When I left for Texas I was 240 and all my joints hurt, particularly my knees. After I dropped 20 pounds everything felt better, I'm talking like new. Now I run, work and lift without any significant pain.

I'm thinking that a lot of your knee problems will ease up once you drop the extra weight. If you think about it, your body wasn't designed to carry that much around all the time.

You'll need a healthy, low calorie, high protein diet. That means THREE meals a day minimum and leave the junk where it belongs- on the shelf.

Swimming is the best cardio for people with bad knees. No stress on the joints. Once you drop some pounds your knees will feel better guaranteed. Then you can start going for daily walks and after awhile, runs.

Nothing enhances your quality of life like being in shape. Not money, not booze, not chicks, nothing.

If that's your step daughter then she looks just like the chick Dr. that played on House.....

I swear she looks exactly like the Asian Doc that was on the last season of House?

ETA: Duh, that's what I get for not reading all of the posts before I open my pie hole.

In the military you know your past your prime when the kids call you old man as they sprint past you while you huff and puff the last leg of a 2 mile PT run.

Are you kidding me at 33 I was just hitting my prime. I was a full on sliverback at that age. Now at 55 I am past my prime but age and cunning, coupled with complete ruthlessness can still win the day sometimes.

33 - old? Sounds like you're digging the hole for yourself already! Stay in the fight man!

I'm 38, 6'7" and 235 pounds with about 15% body fat. I struggle to find anyone who can give me a decent fight at the kickboxing gym. I train 4/5 days a week and most people are genuinely surprised when they hear how old I am. I carry injuries for longer and my knees aren't as great as they were; but my strength and stamina are far better than they were ten years ago. I haven't seen a doctor in about 5 years and haven't had a day sick in 4.

It is a cliche - but age is a number. Believe you're old - you are. Live right, eat right and you'll have a better quality of life for longer.
