I just got a ruger mini14,  I got a good deal on it so stop ragging me about it.
Do i accesorize like a true arfkommer, or leave it plain jane?
If the former, which scope mount do we like?  where can i get a rail system?

It's a Mini 14. Putting a scope on it is like putting ground effects on a Pinto.

both valid points.  I'm thinking of only putting on an ultimak mount and leaving it in 'civvie' clothes.  E.g. underfolder wood stock and bushnall 2nd gen holosight.

Ok.

Here is how you can accessorize a Mini 14.

Step 1:  Buy a Surefire 600, an Aimpoint M2, and a M9 bayonet

Step 2: Sell the Mini 14

Step 3: Put above accessories on an AR.  If you don't have one, buy one with the proceeds from the sale    of the Mini 14. . . .

I'd just leave it as is.  It looks good to me with that underfolder.

oh jeebuz.  I have many many AR's.  I don't need more AR's.  I had a chance for a cheap underfolder pre-ban setup.  I'm in NY so that still matters.  By cheap I mean real cheap.  Please end these lectures....

The best accessory you can get will be the pink slip of the firewarms transfer that you get for your records when you trade that thing in and get an AR.

Since you got a good deal on it..you won't be so pissed when you get squat for a trade in.

A buddy of mine had one of those and SWORE by it, till I took my first AR out (oly arms pcr5) and we were hittin golf balls at 100 yards with it.

next day..Mini was history.

So it's like having a fat girlfriend. Lots of fun to play with, but you don't want your friends to see you with it and no matter how much you dress it up...still ain't stackin up against your buddy with the trophy wife who likes to party!

Don't listen to the bastards, Mini 14s are good little utility guns. They are rugged as fuck until you break the trigger, then you can't get it replaced.

Any ways.

I would simply make it a scout. Get a front rail and a tacpoint, about $170.
Or leave it as is and just shut it.

Don't put a flash suppresor etc on it. The flash already is nothing. I was lucky to see flash out of the barrel at night.

Or better yet, get the barrel cut down to 16" or just replace it with a bullpup barrel that is 16"

Go A-Team. Weld some armor plate onto a van and use the van to carry the mini-14 around.

Yeah, that investment casting really revolutionized firearms design and manufacturing!

Is this the same Accuracy Systems that used to be in Texas about 15 years ago? If it is, I had a 20" 1-9" twist barrel installed with an M14 type flash suppressor and a complete black parkerizing job by them. While they had my Mini, they also did an accurizing job on the trigger and installed an adjustable over-travel screw as well - free of charge. When I got the rifle back, it didn't shoot or handle like any other Mini 14 I'd ever used. It was a totally different animal. It was far more accurate (a tack driver), and the balance was far better. The trigger was nothing short of superb. It wasn't cheap to do, but it wasn't outrageous either - no more than what it would cost to do the same to an AR (less, actually). I added an MPI fiberglass stock with a more standard length of pull, and the rifle was quite unique. The appearance was like a hybrid version of a true "Mini M14".

Despite all the dramatic improvements, I still ended up selling it to a friend. After all, it was still a Mini 14 at heart with all of it's investment cast components. It wasn't, nor would it ever be, Mil. Spec. It never failed me though, and it's still preforming as well for my friend.

Try these guys

Brent

+1 I bought a used Mini 14 that was tricked out by Accuracy Systems. They replaced the trigger and it now lets off at 2 pounds, they also added a harmonic barrel stabilizer. The gun came with cheap Swift scopes but it shoots just as good as a AR if not better then some ARs

Paul

Where did you get that gas block rail?  Ive been considering one of the other scout mounts for my Mini, but they both run about $100.  Thats a little too pricey for a Mini.  The one youve got there looks a little more reasonable.

Hey CHapper, I have two mini's they are decent guns, I also keep several extras for when the bluehats come, MrsWind likes it better  than the ar.
