Have you guys seen the article in the newest issue of Maxim?

UNCLE HAM
HOW YOUR MONEY IS WASTED
Before judging us for spending our welfare checks on hookers, blow, and Agent Cody Banks DVD rentals, see the lame ideas our elected officials are bankrolling.

Wanna get pissed off easily, read it. I try to take things with a grain of salt when coming from Maxim magazine, but still... some pretty ridiculous shit that our money gets spent on.

I don't think the article is online unless you have a membership to their site, but you can pretty much find it on any magazine rack... this month has the skank from "that 70's Show" on the cover...

Last year, some Marine Staff Sergeant gave herself a boob job with a Govt Impact Card. It amazes me how dumbasses will abuse these cards when it is common knowledge these items these cards are audited!

They do it because in most cases, there is no penalty for it..at least for civilian workers, in the "good old days". My knowledge of this is second hand, but I've heard that there is no real mechanism in place to go after the folks who abuse the cards...all that can be done is to confiscate the cards. Maybe that's changed now, but I don't know.

I think it was the BN supply guys where I was in Germay 191 Ord) or in 52nd Group that were buying and reselling sneakers with their impact card. Doesn't surprise me given the low-IQ needed to get into supply and the lazy fucks that usually jump on that job at MEPS.

There is definitely no priority in the defense spending budget, even as tightly controlled as it is. When there are places that are spending their money on remodeling their offices instead of buying deployment gear, it's just 18 shades of fucked up. My wifes unit won't get an account with CIF even though they have people deploying on a regular basis. She had to take her own holster and sleeping bag with her. She drew the line at not walking out the dorr with weapons, so they made sure they had them and body armor. Last time she was down range she had to get body armor from the unit she was working for. As far as I'm concerned body armor and other deployment gear should come before shit paper and toner cartirdges.

Glad I'm out because it only pisses me off about a fraction of the amount that it did while I was in.

Since government works on delayed feedback (periodic elections) it will always be less efficient than private industry. You can do one of two things to minimize the amount of waste:

1. Increase the frequency of elections.
2. Keep government as small as possible.

Option 1 creates instability, and would probably fail. This leaves #2. Not exactly a mystery.

Unfortunately, option #2 is overwhelmingly difficult, because government is like a malignant cancer - it tends to grow uncontrollably if not ruthlessly suppressed. And in a republic (or a democracy) suppressing it just doesn't happen. Too many people want to use the power of government to achieve their ends, and the rest are too apathetic to stop them.

Human nature makes gov't what it is. Only changing human nature can change that.

My gov't (reserves) travel car has a $5000 limit for CONUS, usually $10000 for OCONUS. Tempting, if your a dumbass. There is serious repercussions if you mess around with it. you have to pay 100% of your charges when you file a travel claim. We've had people in the past charge hookers in a brothel overseas, porn and booze, bottles not drinks on theirs. They got busted, had the money to pay the bill come out of their paycheck and were kicked out.

So is this like an expense card? Do all infractions count against you? For instnnce, you are out at Sams Club or Office Depot buying office equipment, and you buy a bottle of water for the road. Is the bottle of water going to get you busted, or would it take a bunch more, like buying a set of Z-Rated tires for your car at the same Sams?

There are several different types of cards.

Impact card is a credit card that units have to buy items fast and that usually aren't found in GSA, like optics. Unit Commanders usually get a certain amount of money put into an account that these cards draw funds from. There are limits like nothing above $2500 can be bought, actually there is a myriad of rules on these cards. DoD is very strict on these, other Govt Agencies seem to be much less diligent. DoD will not hesitate to bust ones ass if they abuse it, these cards are audited (GAO is one of them) and buying boobjobs/nice rims will result in ramifications.

Travel cards are another credit card used for travel during TDY; buying tickets, lodging, and food. They can be used in the case of emergency if one isn't TDY. These farking cards are the most abused, gives plenty of Commanders and 1SG/Chiefs headaches. DoD insisted on issueing them to everyone like troops freshout of boot camp and have no concept of the trouble they can get themselves into. Personally, I think the cards should be issued but kept in the unit to be signed out for the lower enlisted. NCO's and Officers should know damn well that abusing the cards will be a career ender.

heh heh.... yeah I seem to remember when I was a SPC at Belvoir and we were told we had to move out of the barracks because they were remodeling them. So I got an apartment... and I rented a U Haul truck with my travel Visa. The way I saw it it was the Army making me move so I didn't see the issue. My commander didn't quite see it the same way... and I got my pee pee spanked for it. Stupid card...

The first one I had was the .gov Amex which was fucking worthless overseas... I did a two weak trip w/ Hitlery two Prague, Bucharest, and Estonia and needless to say there weren't many places that accpetd that friggin thing.

Why did she charge it when you can get it done by .mil docs for free if you are willing to wait. Talk about waste of money - boob jobs, lipo - wtf?

I'm not sure if the boob job's are free. I'm about 97% sure WRAMC does lipo for free but they charge a minimal fee for breast augmentation, and charge nothing for reductions as those are actually a medical necessity for some women. I thought about that when I read that post too, but I forgot to mention it. How stupid can people get. Wonder if she also got a little bling bling put into her grill... gold tooth with a diamond or something.

They have to buy the actual implant, everything else is on the taxpayer's tab.
