Ok ladies and gentlemen, from the crazed minds of AR15.Com and Castle Arms, we're going to see how much interest we can generate in the preliminary announcement for the:
[red]1st Annual Black Rifle Convention[/red] Without given too much away and yet making you drool, here's what we're putting together for YOU!!! Event Location: Illinois (West Central 1-1.5 hours from StLouis) Event Date: TBD (Late April/May Timeframe) Event Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday Event Highlights: - Scheduled Shooting Events - Manufacturers On Hand For Discussions - Full Camp Site And Lodging Available (5 Star) - Evening Parties and Entertainment - User Firearm Auction (List your extra or unwanted items for the auction and be a part of it!!!) - Full Range Access - Class 3 Rentals Sponsored By Dealers The location will utterly amaze you and we're planning more than just your typical shoot. This is a group gathering to great and meet the people who bring you the fine weapons, your fellow board members, and those of us who run the site. Come party it up with your family or without them! There will be fun for everyone in as unique an experience as we can possibly provide!!! Definitely more information will be released in the coming weeks/months as we move forward and get more people involved and see if there's enough excitement to fill the place!!! This will be closed to AR15.Com ONLY!!! (Although we will have public tickets available for the firearm auction!) Let me know if this is something you want to be a part of!!! Once the interest is here, we'll throw up a signup, take reservations, and start finalizing activities!!! The goal for the range is to have reserved time slots for activities and events to take place when open shooting will not be allowed. This may include shooting tips and techniques, demonstrations, and so group competitions!!! (We'll post signup sheets for these as well!) |
I'll certainly pull out all the stops to be there. Guess I'm lucky Castle Arms is in IL and not in the PRK (but, then again, so are they)!
I may even bring an AR15.com lurker with me.... |
There are only 1200 acres to play on the site.
2000 if count lower fishing & duck hunting lodges. |
One of the funnest days of my life was the shoot last Memorial Day weekend at the Buffalo Range, and this is about a two hour drive for me, so, uh, yup. I'm in unless dead or disabled. Count on it. I have been contemplating suggesting something like this. Voila, you read my mind. This is great!! [:D]
Sounds like fun! I'll make at least 1 day. It would be a great time to pick up 2002 LEGP's.

Sure, hold it in a state where we can't carry... How about Indiana, they are much more gun friendly.
I'd DEFINATELY be into a road trip to a big AR15.com gathering...
Sounds like a blast !!! I'd be there for the 3-day duration... I've had the chance to meet several members from these forums, and they're all really great folks... I'd love to meet more... Several of these guys live near me in the SE PA area... Maybe we could put together a caravan of heavily armed gunman from our area, to visit this event...[:)] I'll be sure to bring my "cache" of "assault weapons" from my "arsenal", along with my "stockpile" of ammo... Hmmm... Let's see.... PaSpecops,Shaggy,DavidC,Grundsau,7, Libertyof76,Gus,FrankSquid,FattyM4, etc... Whadda you say guys??? Roadtrip ??? |

Sounds like fun! We'll see how taxes are this year, but I'd like to get out of PRK again and back to the US.

The owner of this very luxurious 5-Star Hunting Resort is a good friend of mine, and has been a computer networking and graphics client of mine for about 6 years now...
This resort has been featured on ESPN and TNN Outdoors. If it helps any, the "Whack Master" himself is a regular guest! [;)] This lodge has 11 rooms, with accommodations to sleep roughly 30-40 guests. This location is also fully setup for primitive camping, without lodge privileges... Grin_N_Barrett and I need to schedule a immediately after the holidays to go survey the new layout they have to offer, and check out the on-site ranges. My wife and I have been there numerous times, but this place is always evolving! While I'm not sure if they would be accessible to us with this being setup for firearms, I can tell you that they have trial rides available. It would be a great way to convince women and kids, if the horses can be made available to us though! Like Grin_N_Barret said, 1200 acres on this site... but he doesn't know about the overflow location just a few miles away for the possibility of additional lodging! [:)] FWIW: This place has some of the largest Whitetails in the country... some of them are actually as large as Elk! The "other" lodge is a world-class waterfowl flyway, located right on the Mississippi. As for their "5-Star Rating", that comes from Orvis Outdoors... You hunters will certainly know what this means! Oh yea, once again, Ted Nugent ( the Whack Master) hunts here! [:D] I will mention one more thing; The owners of this place have never been exposed to "our" type of shooting and/or firearms, so professionalism is of the utmost importance! |
I'm in!!
C3 allowed in IL? (Indiana would be much more friendly to this type of gathering, though) QS |
The time frame mentioned would fall during the turkey season. Most lodges are booked solid during that time. If that was already considered, ignore/delete this.
I think this could turn into a major event and opportunity for our sport if the owners have never been exposed to our type of shooting before! It would be a chance for us to show and represent what normal caring safe fun individuals we are. Everyone starts thier black rifle addiction somewhere.
As we start getting a rough estimate of numbers and can throw them at the businesses and manufacturers, this thing will definitely grow quickly.
We'll also check out on additional hotels/motels in the area. All I know is I've got dibs of the suite!!! I need to be pampered like the Goat that I am!!! Of course, I am willing to share with anyone who wants to jump into the hot tub with me!!! [=D] I also want to restate the fact that this place is a very family oriented site. This means we should be on our best behavior and should consider bringing families to enjoy this with us. Perhaps we can talk Arock [=D] into doing a seminar for kids on shooting safety and give the little fellows some time on the range!!! (I'm sure a few of us have crickets and other children's rifles laying around!) |
Sounds very interesting!
I like the idea of the family coming and having stuff for them to do. The wife liked the horse idea so you guys work on that. Also how far is that from the MS gulf coast? Stinger |
Where is this place, and are there any normal hotels nearby? It can't be Buffalo, so somewhere else?
I'm sure staying at a 5 star hunting lodge is great, but what about us without funds? And who the heck is "Whack Master"? Sounds like someone from a porn flick. Av. |
Sounds like it's time to round up the NYPD-members for some R&R!!![heavy]
I'll drive up from GA if I don't have a conflict with an important match. What are the laws regarding transport of black rifles & handguns in Il?
They need to be cased and separate from ammo. Preferably in the trunk of a car.
I drive a 2-door Blazer (no trunk), so I keep my rifles and handguns in locked cases, and my ammo in a separate bag. I was stopped once and the Officer had no problems since locked and cased weapons are not "readily available". He even said I was a "lucky bastard for being able to shoot on a gorgeous day". He was pissed he couldn't get any range time! Av. |
The rooms mentioned are ON SITE rooms. This means you walk outside and your on the range. The campsite is also an extension of this place, so there is really no travel after arrival.
There is additional lodging very close by from the same ownership and we will get more details on it and other available options in the area. We'll have more specific details available after the holidays (when we have more time!). Right now we want to guage the excitement and see how much interest there is for this type of event. I've been to a number of shoots, and we want this to be a very unique and exciting event! It's also a small hope (back of my mind) that a small group of hunters come out of this with a yearly plan to return for some of the famous white tail hunting the area is famous for. (I'm sure EdSr will go nuts over this, damn crazy hunting fanatic! [=D] (Thanks for the venison slim jims BTW!!!)) |

Ted Nugent. Edited to add: I have nearly 400 bowling pins if they could be useful. Also, I live close enought to come over the weekend before to assist in any way needed--setting up ranges, etc. Please keep me in mind. I can probably round up others too who may or may not post here regularly, but LOVE shoots like this. |

Beekeeper, that sounds great...
I think our shooting comps will defintely border more on fun than on true competition. Again, family atmosphere and we want any kids to learn that everyone can enjoy shooting!!! (Last thing I want is to win and then run around waving my shirt in the air and yelling, "I AM THE GREATEST!!!" [}=)] Keeping that in mind, those pins may come in handy! (Not sure for beating me over the head with!) Again, the focus of this will be more on fun and less on open range shooting. Sure there will be plenty of open range time, but don't expect have a 4 hour blast fest and then leave!!! |
I'm interested, but with the way the money is flowing, I may not have my AR built by then.

Some suggested classes to be held:
BTT means back to top How to keep your finger off the trigger when taking photos of yourself. How to duct tape trauma plates to your body in order to "absorb rounds" while your female partner returns fire. Why the AR is better than the AK. McUzi names 101 [:D] |

GB, I shoot a great deal as it is, so may not shoot much at this event. I would be happy to work with others, as I do this constantly already. I am not certified as an instructor of any type, but have had much safety training and am a fanatic for safety. I can bring a variety of firearms for others, including a Cricket and a .50 BMG. Vector Joe, do NOT let that stop you. There will be plenty of rifles to go around. I would gladly work, rather than play, to make this go smoothly and be fun for others. We need to bring wimmins and chilerns into the fold, if we are to survive. I belong to a club locally that has several dedicated individuals who would probably be thrilled by this. It will take a lot of time/effort to make the logistics work out. G & B and Anti cannot be expected to do it all just because they are closest and gluttons for punishment. I will e-mail my phone # to be passed around as needed for easy contact. It is the # of my office in my home, so has a machine if I'm out. I am very excited.

Great Idea! Will the MallNinja be providing security? If yes, count me and my probation officer in on this one.

This sounds great. However I will need to hook up with members from here to there at approx 200 mile intervals to help me wind up the rubber band in the Yugo![:)]
