HAHAHAHAHAHA..... But hey, at least his finger is off the trigger.

Well, if it looks like an unloaded M16A1, then it must be an unloaded M16A1...[;D] Wonder if it was used in Vietnam?

Bet he has a mag in his pants that he can draw, lock & load in 10 seconds flat. Er, well, he'll probably be on the ground in less time than that...guys those 30's take too long to pull out. Guz
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 5:03:37 AM EDT
I hope there's a bayonet affixed to that rifle so he can at least poke the bad guys.
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 5:13:58 AM EDT
He has a fancy sling & no magazine! [red]Libertas an Mortis![/red]

Betcha he doesn't even have a trigger int hat thing. A stage mock-up to keep the sheep quiet. Betcha it is also working.

"Stop!!! Or I'll...... hit you with my gun!"

The Colorado National Guard does have mags in their guns, but who can tell if they are loaded?

LOOK CLOSELY. That is one of those rubber training rifles. No separation between the recevier halves, the charging handle is one piece with the upper, the A1 rear sight adjust is one piece with the carry handle. I hope this guy is a good baseball player, cuz that "rifle" is ONLY a bat. Even theh mag release button is "gone."
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 5:42:28 AM EDT
I know how he feels. I hated posing. Powers that be dont trust the training they provide for NG`s & Reserves.

That's what I was thinking. I'm pretty certain that every NG and Reserve unit has A2's by now. However, there is no real reason to "upgrade" the "rubber duckies" at least until they are all bent to hell from bayonet training. How would you feel about being handed a rubber rifle and to told to guard anything, even in piece time? These guys could face real terrorists and they're handed a rubber toy gun and put out like targets. Jez-us!
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 6:11:58 AM EDT
so you guys are aying that's a rubber rifle?!?!?!? wtf?!?!? if that was me i'd go home and get my shotgun, or am i allowed to kill without permission?1!?!?! man guys, that sucks.
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 7:02:59 AM EDT
The article doesn't state, so I'm still wondering if Ol Red Davis issued mags to the guard. It takes 4+ seconds to load mag, charge a round and remove the safety. Enough time for the terrorist to ....

I think it may be the Barney Fife M16 version. He only has one bullet! "Aaaandy, let me git my bullit"
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 7:20:23 AM EDT
It's not a "rubber duck", but I don't think it's an A1 either - no forward assist. Appears to be an original M-16.

Im sorry Garand_Shooter but I have a hard Time beliving that they gave you LIVE ammo unless you took some To work from Wal-Mart. They wouldnt even give troops in DestertStorm Live ammo untill they were out in the middle of nowhere. I Guarded an Assembly where Vice-Pres Quail gave a speach(hold the jokes)Im sure secreat service had ammo but the Army boys didnt. Hell we didnt even have bayo's.

Live ammo depends on Command & mission. When SCARNG was activated for Hurricane Hugo in '89, we had live ammo. My unit's main mission was looter control. Marshal Law was also declared. Other units with other missions did not get any ammo.

Look CLOSELY. Look where the buffer tube enters the lower receiver. There is NO seam between upper and lower there. The light is reflecting there, and any seam would be evident. Also, look at the ejection port cover spring. You should see the wire spring. You don't . Its smooth. I sill think he's got Unka Sam's rubber duckie.

Reguardless if its a DUCK or the real deal with out any ammo the m16 is an unweildy club or w/bayo the worlds worst spear platform.

I'm no expert, but I think it would be logical to keep magazines removed but in a accessible location to load the weapon quickly if a problem arrizes. It would prevent snatch and grab terrorists from instantly being armed, with a machine gun, in the middle of an airport. Just a thought...

There is no mag release button fence either. Looks like an original M16 (I would love to see the flash suppressor). It is definitely an automatic since you can see the sear pin just above the selector.

Looks fake to me, where is the charging handle and where is the pistol grip?

Umm, it's long been the policy not to keep a magazine in, as to not scare the public. I don't know what the big deal is, you can stick a mag in in 2 seconds. It's not like the terrorists are going to be running around an airport shooting people anyway.
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 9:08:59 AM EDT
It ain't rubber. It's empty and just as useless though. But the only time I was ever allowed to carry a mag in the weapon was, like the man said, out in the middle of nowhere.
Link Posted: 10/16/2001 9:16:57 AM EDT
Look at the pistol belt. I don't see any magazine pouches either!

Some terrorists in Italy did exactly that. They shot up an airport full of people with automatic weapons. [edited for spelling]

I didn't believe it till I saw the rounds in the mag myself, but its true. You are right about DS, the guys who were there didn't believe we were getting ammo that easily either. Some stages of THREATCON specify that armed gaurds WILL be on station, no if ands or buts. This is not the same country or military it was 2 months ago when it comes to those things. If you don't believe me, so be it, but there are many here that will vouch for me. I have no reason to BS anyone here.

I asked some buddies at Ft Bliss and get this the regular Army guys there are "NOT" getting ammo but the National Guard guys are....screwy

Next time you see an "armed Guard" like this, walk up to him and pull your hand out of your pocket, point you finger and go bang. Than ask what would have happened if you gun was real and loaded?
