People seem to need a configuration before they will commit to this. I am going to list several possibilities here, please vote on your preference. Please note, Antiussa has indicated that if we do this it will be 7.62x39 because of availability of parts, mags and ammo.
Configuration 1 - Krinkov with either short barrel or fake can to reach minimum barrel length, depends on legality of your jurisdiction and personal preference. Configuration 2 - Milled Receiver Arsenal AK with synthetic stock, permamnent muzzle brake, and factory installed side-rail for optics mounting. Configuration 3 - High Quality stamped receiver such as FEG with Polish AKM parts kit and Ironwood stock set, slant muzzle brake, side rail mount. Configuration 4 - RPK Configuration 5 - VEPR 16 inch carbine All options would have a LEGP engraving and serial numbers. |

Brou, until there is an idea of what will be ordered and how many, there can be no price given. Currently Arsenal SA-M7s go for $525 and could be had for less with a group order. Quantity pricing will make this more affordable for everyone.
Im still hung up on a campyclone style gun. Maybe one withought the optics would suite better.
Glo, many people feel the SAR series rifle are rather low end. A campyclone is also a 5.45 rifle. This is unlikely due to the shortage of 5.45 receivers. However, an ultra highend Campyclone built on a 5.45 KVAR kit and a quality receiver... Damn, I'd unload my SAR campyclone and be all over that. However, it seems that 7.62 is a fait accompli according to anti.
How about SAR-2 or something similar in 5.45x39 and cheap. Cheap is one of the things I like about AK's. My last AK cost me $189.
First, the days of cheap SARs are over. IF you can find a SAR-2, its going to be $350 or more. Century is not importing any more. SARs in general have poor fit and finish. Yes, they work fine - most of the time, but the quality is not on the level of what most people would want. By the time you corrected for canted sights, canted gas blocks, poor finish on wood, bad parkerizing, etc. you will have put more into the gun then what you would have spent had you just started out with an Arsenal or FEG kit gun.
Once again, anti has said IF this happens it will be a 7.62x39. SAR-2s are not 7.62, that would be a SAR-1 and they suffer from the same problems. If people want a 5.45 then the VEPR might be your option as they are the only people I know of mass producing a 5.45x39. |
Well i guess my LEGP rifle wont have any other playmates From AR-15.com. Especailly with the poor choice of a shotgun and the REALLY Poor choice in LEGP pistol. And now the AK as well.... BTW The words High Quality and AK should rarely be used together.
Where is the muzzle break? Is it too close to the muzzle BRAKE to be welded up or repaired someway?
Hey tc, that's pretty funny, I guess after a sixty hour work week and throwing together a quick poll at midnight, I made a typo. You kill me, keep your day job because whatever you make as a stand up comic wouldn't be able to buy you a highpoint.
Having said that, tc is correct, it is spelled brake. If the SA-M7 is true to its brethren the SLR-95 and the SA-93 it should be chrome lined - barrel and bore. IIRC, the barrels are hammer forged on machinery purchased from Steyer and are rated for more rounds then you will shoot in a lifetime. As far as the crack about high quality and AK not going together I can tell you that person has never played with an Arsenal or any other top end AK, and certainly never seen a VEPR. There are great AKs and kalishnakrap out there, none of the options I have suggested would be crap. Guess what, there are GREAT ARs out there and crap as well - anyone buy one of those Hesse ARs yet? Or how about a Carbon 15. Unless you know what you are talking about glo, best not to appear like an idiot. Since we all know you not to be (benefit of the doubt), please don't prove us wrong. |
BTW glo, I find it rather confusing that you decry the choices listed above as being less than quality and yet want a campyclone built on a SAR?!?!?!?!?!?! SARs by and large function, but they by and large are a mess to look at it. This comes from my experience working in a gunshop and having sold a few dozen over the past year AND from having built a Campy clone on the SAR-2 I purchased for myself - trigger slap, canted front sight, canted gas block (fortunately not on mine) and soft hammers (also not on mine), bad park jobs, crappy wood... It was a cheap starting point WHEN they were available and cheap. They are now neither.
HiramRanger,
Would you please post some pics or links for the choices given? Thanks for your help. |
I don't know how to post links. The actual configs I am suggesting may or may not exist as of yet and might be done by someone like Arsenal to make a unique gun for us. I believe you can see what the SA-M7 (milled Arsenal gun)and what a FEG AKM (FEG with Polish AKM kit) look like at www.tennesseeguns.com I believe they also have a section for VEPRs.
As far as the krinkov goes, you can get an idea of what this looks like by going to the krinkov forum at www.ak-47.net RPKs were just something someone had suggested as being truly unique. Not much knowledge here on my part. |
What the heck do these rifles look like? What is the difference between them?
I want something that has the "AK-47" look, not some newfangled AK. Please post pictures and better descriptions. Av. |
The Arsenal SA M-7 with a fatory optics rail installed and a decent brake would be the one I want.
Avalon go to www.tennesseeguns.com and you can see several varities of AKs. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO POST PICS!

I'd prefer a high quailty Stamped reciever AK with the AKM parts. However, I will be in on ANY configuration. I have the CA$H now and would like forward ASAP. Thanks for your effort so far HIRAMRANGER.

Hey Anti (I'll get around to calling you eventually!) I know CampyBob mentioned it but how about something by "Informer" at Solstice Arms Int'l? From what I've been hearing, this guy is THE MAN when it comes to AK's...
I'm voting for a Krinkov with my second choice being choice #2 |
In these times of war isn't it just slightly unpatriotic to make a shitty AK? (Here come the flames!!!) After all, our forces will be killed by this arm. The AK is no American arm. Why all the interest in stencilling ar-15.com on some commie POS?
I understand the desire to make some "Cool" custom stuff. You will be the bad boy on the block. But don't do it at the expense of American pride...Ditch this piece of crap and do a LEGP 1911 or something AMERICAN... |
I was one that screamed for the CampyClone BUT all I wanted was the look.
The milled Arsenal gun would be perfect with the black synthetic furnature and 74 comp on the end.. BTW if you use the ACTUAL ak-74 front site base you don't have to weld on the real 74 comp, because that it what it is a comp, and the barrel won't be threaded so it skips the ban... (So I have heard) BISHOP |
Troll, your name says it all... move along, nothing for an ignoramous like you to see here.
In case you didn't know, our allies in Afghanistan are fielding AKs as are many of our specops boys. If you don't want one, don't buy one. Is that so hard to figure out? |

I voted for a milled AK, but I think if we could import bizon parts kits that those would be sweet, plus very unique.

My only AR-15 won't fire even a single clip without jamming at least once and usually several times (It's being sent in for repairs), yet my shitty SAR-2 right out of the box will burn through clip after clip after clip without hiccuping a single time and it has straight sites that needed no adjustments. That SAR-2 sure is shitty huh... Anyone that wants to break into my home while I am there can rest assured that I will use this shitty SAR-2 to defend my life/property with. Arsenal.
Would much, MUCH prefer 5.45, there's a reason that the people that can have moved on from 7.62. Juggernaut |
I have spoken with the powers that be... I have to agree that the 7.62 is the best choice for the FIRST LEGP AK. 5.45 would be an ideal second year LEGP... Think of it guys, we could first have a 7.62, then a 5.45 followed by a .308 perhaps... The key right now is to make sure there is a first that is successful enough that there is reason to do a second. 7.62 is how the AK began and in my opinion, for whatever that is worth, it should be how the LEGP begins. And as the AK progressed over time, so can the LEGP.

Quoted: Arsenal. Would much, MUCH prefer 5.45, there's a reason that the people that can have moved on from 7.62. Juggernaut View Quote Ditto. And it helps that I have about 2k rounds of 5.45 and 10 mags. |
Brou, think of this as an excuse to buy more mag and ammo! Like any good AR15.com member needs one of those...
Ammo for the 7.62 can be had for 69.99 plus shipping per 1,000 rounds. It can be found at EVERY gun show and in EVERY gun shop. That much can't be said for the 5.45 yet. If you don't already have a 7.62, think of this as killing two birds with one stone. You get the original calibre and you get it in a rifle that maybe 100 people tops will likely have. Given some of the ideas that anti has been tossing around, this could be just phucking AMAZING. I for one am waiting with bated breath to hear what the config is going to be. |
I like #2 and #3. I have almost no experience with AK's but I would like to change that. It will depend somewhat on the price, but if we can get them cheaper than they were listed on the tennesseeguns sight then we should be good. I haven't seen a krinkov and couldn't find a pic on the ak forum so i'll stick with #2 as my favorite and #3 running a close second.
Lets get this decided and a price set so I can budget this. Thanks for all the work your putting into this guys. Guncrazy223 |

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say the AK will likely be in thr $500-$600 range. To make this a truly unique offering it is gonna cost a little more. However, if the AR LEGP is any indication you will get a whole lot more rifle than what you pay for. So if it is $600 expect it to be a rifle worth closer to $800-$1000.
Considering a SAR will run you $400 today and a run of the mill basic Arsenal $525 plus, $600 for a custom AK is not at all out of line and in fact would still be a bargain. I'd like to see it as inexpensive as possible while not compromising the quality that everyone anticipates. If the gun is anything like some of the ideas I have heard from the powers that be, it will be a bargain at under $600! I am ready to send a 50% deposit as soon as anti has the particulars hammered out and is ready to take reservations. |
Hiram,
I never said I wouldn't be interested in a 7.62. I'd just be MORE interested in a 5.45. When the price is set, I'll know where I stand. |
I hear ya dog... I'd like an LEGP in 5.45 myself at some point. Like I said, I want this to be a series like the AR LEGP is.

My opinion of a truly unique but doable Kalashnikov would be this. Take a 7.62 VEPR (Molat Arsenal) barreled assembly reconfigured for the standard pistol grip & buttstock, install the following US parts... fire control group, (Gordon Tech or Robinson), gas piston, pistol grip & muzzle brake. Top it off w/ traditional Bulgarian poly furniture, side rail & regular front sight. Sort of a Kreb's style custom. Heck maybe even shorten the barrel to 14-1/2" & add on a 74 style of brake.
Before anyone says anything I realize that Hesse is making a rifle like this but they are using Saiga's, not VEPR's. Just an idea I thought I'd toss out. I already have a SSR-85 & a SA M-7. |
All I have to say is I spoke with Tim (antiussa) for over an hour last night
IN ANTI I TRUST! I can hardly keep from exploding with excitement :) |

If the 7.62 is sufficiently cool enough, I will probably buy in, but it is gonna have to be REALLY nice. I would still prefer a 5.45...
