Anything else is a waste of money.

Lidatek makes the best laser defuser.
Even V1 is worthless against LIDAR.

Valentine 1.  The directional indicators are great to have, but if they use laser, kiss your butt goodbye.

Valentine 1

My brother has had one for a couple of years and he says it's the cats ass.  He just sent the unit in to have it upgraded which I believe will make it effective against laser, but I could be wrong.

Eyeball, Mk1 Mod 0.

Experience too. I know the route to school like the back of my hand, esp. where the cops sit. My first ticket was a rough wake up call. I didnt even see the guy.

Saw the second guy. Still got a ticket.

Started paying attention. now I see them a LONG way off.

V1 will leave you hanging. First hand experience here.

I had a SOLO, got rid of it, bought a V1, got three tickets in less than 6 months, went back to the Solo and haven't had so much as a warning in over two years.

Common sense is the best, because cops use the on/off radar now... They are not stupid.

I recently read, I cannot remember where (so take it for what it's worth,) that the new Escort got the highest performance, beating out the V-1.

BTW: It's doesn't matter if your box has a laser sensor or not. If your laser sensor goes off, you've been hit and your getting pulled over. I was doing a ride along once when I was back in town and shot a car at 3200m, or feet, one time. The guy had a laser detector and swore he didn't get zapped.

V1 is it.  Ran by a 'Your Speed is ...' box last week though and the Valentine didn't pick it up!  Drove by the thing twice more and not a peep.  Burned two radar traps on my way home with it, though... [;)]

About a year and a half ago I bought a radar detector.  I read some reviews and tests online where they set up a radar gun and drove the car at the radar guns (on the different radar bands) and noted down when each radar detector picked up the signal.

My BEL 980 actually outperformed the V1 on a couple bands and it cost $200 at the time.  BEL has since come up with a newer model, so that one may be even better.

The only time I've gotten a ticket since I bought it was when I had gone to Canada the previous night and had thus taken out the radar detector, since in Canada they will confiscate it if they see it.  Well I had forgotten to put the radar detector back in the car and wouldn't you know, the ONE time I don't have the radar detector the state troopers nailed my ass!

Radar detectors are good, but they will not make you invincible.  For example, if you are the only guy driving along a road for miles, you can't really rely on your radar detector because the cops lying in wait for you will probably not even turn on their radar guns until they have you in their sights!  Then again, if the cop is lazy he may just turn on the radar detector, point it at the road and kick back and wait for a speed demon to come by.

So where it's really useful is on the Interstate when there are plenty of other cars that the cops are shooting with their radar.

The other reason I haven't gotten many tickets is I'm also always focused on the road and if I see brake lights coming on up ahead as cars crest a hill or come to a bend or something, I know there are cops there.  Things like that.

Also, one time I almost got nailed with the "Instant On" radar, when the cop doesn't turn the gun on until he has you in his sights, but lucky me, since I was alert I saw the cop and slowed down enough that by the time he got me, I was only doing 65-70.  In that case, the radar detector didn't save me, it was my alertness.

And these people saying detectors don't do any good against laser, I disagree.  My detector has saved me from laser a couple times, but when the laser warning goes off, you have to slow down RIGHT NOW and no pussyfooting around like you can do if it's a K-Band alert or something.

Supposing there's a car in front of you and the cop hits that car with the laser, then some of the laser will pass through the car's windshields and hit your detector.  Luckily lasers are expensive so you don't see them too much.

That radar detector has been one of the best things I've ever bought.  I paid $200 for it and it has probably saved me about $600-700 in traffic fines during the last year and a half.  Talk about a return on investment!  Now if only my stock portfolio was doing so well!

The escort 8500 gets very good reviews as does their RADAR/Laser Jammer. Unlike many others this unit works and can be remotely installed into your dash making it more theft resistant from the Canuks and other common thieves. It is pricey though, about $1200 installed. I would buy the Escort myself.

As I posted earlier, Lidatek for LIDAR.

Active RADAR jammers are more trouble for you than you will want, and they screw up everyone elses' RADAR detectors: Thanks a lot.

Passive RADAR jammers, such as Rocky Mountain, are a total waste of money.

V1 for long range detection of instant on activity, and Lidatek for LIDAR activity:
Best combination on the raod.

Bel 985, very nice unit. all radar/laser bands in the US (not the international band)

$250 i think it was..

Rocky Mountain is a bullshit company with bullshit products.

Any radar jammer that works will get you in SO much trouble with the FCC.  Pound me in the ass prison.

Valentine 1 all the way.

A good CB unit tuned in to the truckers. Best upto the second report on the "smokey" situation you are going to get.
