Hey, this started on another thread to avoid a hi-jack I figured I'd start my own.  I'm with the AF rescue unit that was deployed to Khandahar this summer.  When we showed up it was more then a little hot for us Alaskan's so we decided that a pool was in order.

Edited to thank tivoli410 for hosting the pics...

Great pics! A guy's gotta' do what a guy's gotta' do. [;)]

Is that a 7.62mm minigun? I ask because a few days ago I was going through a reference book of mine on the history of gatling guns. There was a pic and even model number for a 6 barrel .50 BMG minigun that they said was used in the Blackhawk helicopter. Only thing is, I always thought they used the 7.62mm -gun.

Yeah it's 7.62

I've never seen a 50bmg mini-gun.  not on a Helicopter anyway.

Interesting pics.  That AF taxi is a strange looking bird...with some weird appendages on the nose and just below and behind the pilot.  Gotta love that minigun...

IR Spotlight is the square box and the bulbous nose appendage is the FLIR.

It was up and running in AUG....  As far as I can remember we had it going from july to until my friend and I drained it in NOV.

Scht0nk,
Leave the Zoomie stuff to us buddie, you'll be OK[;)]  The Square box you see in the pic is accually one of our flare pods.  And the "bulbous" thing on the front that is our Color weather radar.  the Flir pod is centered and under a bit more.  The IR search light is stowed in the belly.

Just in case you wanted to know,

The .50cal gatling is USN only. The two HAL squadrons use them on their HH-60K's
