.... Last year I bought, and absolutely fell in love with the Henry Repeating Arms Henry, Big Boy Rifle chambered in .38/.357 magnum

Since then I’ve been wondering about the Henry, Golden Boy Rifle chambered in .22LR to keep the Big Boy company in the safe – and bought one today
Side by side, I see the Big Boy has tarnished somewhat from use, and doesn’t quite look as bright as the Golden Boy.

What are the quintessential methods / chemicals for polishing brass to its original, factory sheen?

I use one of those lead remover cloths. Polish it for a few seconds, then buff it with a clean dry cloth. Mirror finish with just a few seconds work.

I've never used it on brass, but you might check into Flitz paste. Works on everything else and a little goes a long way.

A well kept antique will look like this:

Not dull and crusty and not polished like a brass bedpost, either.

If you want it shiny get some Brasso and hand polish it.

This stuff works. Get it at Walmart for under $5 a can in the auto section.

I was introduced to it at Parris Island, and have been using it ever since.

After you polish it wax it with regular car wax. That way it will stay nice and shiny.

Yup. Back when I played drums, I'd keep my cymbals clean with Zildjian polish which repackaged Flitz and put some car wax on them to deter fingerprints. Worked well and didn't affect the sound.

Just beware that most gun solvents (Breakfree CLP, Hoppes #9) will remove wax pretty quickly.
