i watched a show about the ball a couple months ago. it has only actually landed at the right time a few times in the last 10 years or so. for some reason they have a hard time getting to work right. might have just been screwed up a little more than normal this year. .

... It musta been me, but I thought for sure the three networks I was watching all delayed the moment.

... If it didn't happen, I'm a happy man!

Calm down what you were most likely seeing was a delay caused by trips up to and back down from satellites.

The signal goes from NY up to a satellite the back down to network broadcast HQ… then back up to a satellite and back down to a distributor (for example Dish Network or DirectTV). Then maybe back up and back down to the distributors affiliates/customers. The delay depends on how many satellite hops the signal has to make before it gets to the final user.

The networks also sometimes build in a delay in live broadcasts to give their technicians or censors time to react to something unexpected.

Almost nothing you see on “live” TV is in real time.

Broadcast? Cable? Satellite?

I know for a fact that my friend's dish has a delay of several seconds compared to my cable.

no delay on the buffalo abc affiliate unless they delayed the Buffalo ball drop the same amount of time since they showed it split screen with the audio from dick clark in NY City

It was ten seconds off with my clock. And my clock is right on with the atomic clock. I have satellite.

I noticed no delay here. In fact, it was 20 seconds faster than my watch.

I notice the samething, but I think they did so they could filter out other things not related to terrorism. There is website out there that collect women flashing the cameras on live TV. It's really funny to see Katie Curic talk with a topless women behind her.

So, yes, your right but I think they did it for other reasons.
