 KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans. Brant was skipper of the #96 and # 36 boat and spent time with Kerry in An Thoi. Kerry and Brant slept in the same quarters, and Brant used to put Kerry back to bed at night when Kerry was sleepwalking. Brant received a call from Kerry at his home in Virginia while he was watching the Olympics on TV. The call lasted 10 minutes, sources tell DRUDGE. KERRY: "Why are all these swift boat guys opposed to me?" BRANT: "You should know what you said when you came back, the impact it had on the young sailors and how it was disrespectful of our guys that were killed over there. [Brant had two men killed in battle.] KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans." Kerry then asked if he could meet Brant -- man to man -- face to face. Brant declined the invite, explaining that Kerry was obviously not prepared to correct the record on exactly what happened during Vietnam and what happened when Kerry came back. Beyond belief... if you read Unfit for Command you'll see a great passage from the Swifties reunion last year. Kerry showed up with a camera crew, got the footage he wanted while shoving everyone around for his photo-ops and then left. This is rich.

I found it an interesting point from Savage yesterday - if Kerry scored 3 PH, 1 BS and 1 SS in 3 months of active combat, that would make him one of the most highly decorated veterans in this country's history. It is ironic that he is stanchly defending the medals he so willingly threw over the fence back at Congress and in the face of other veterans - he is a disgrace |

If he is saying that other swiftboat vets cannot comment on what he did because they were not on the same boat as him, then how can he state that all other soldiers besides the "swifties" committed atrocities when he was not there. He is using a double standard. Not to mention the fact that he tries to discredit the ones against him by saying they were not on the boat, but when a story surfaces that helps him he acknowledges it as fact - even when that source comes from a different boat than his. But wait - how the hell can anyone be sure if they werent on that boat with him????

Down 10 points with veterans, about 48% of undecideds who see the ad consider it credible. I think its doing quite a bit of damage... most of it multiplied by Kerry's response.

Considering how close this election is and considering how many Veterans we have in this nation (over 1 million Americans served in the Vietnam theatre alone), a 10 point drop is significant. I mean think of all those who have served this nation. If you could gain say, 10% of those to your side, that could be the election right there. Of course most veterans support republicans anyway by in large, but the 10 point drop was among those who previously had a favorable opinion of Kerry.

There are some public polls out there that likely paint the same source, but my source is not for public distribution. I am a political operative and public relations officer. We can talk about the numbers we see, but we don't have copies available for linking on-line. I will try to find some other numbers out there for you though, I know there are enough public sources reflecting approximately the same thing.
