My local shop has a WASR for $400.  Its in great condition, fixed stock with no noticeable assembly defects.  I'm tempted to get it but want the hives opinion on the price.

Thanks.

I got a SAR-1 for that a few years ago.

Are WASRs really that much now?

A tad much, AIM sells them for 379.

But far from the worst I've seen.

Not bad from a local gun shop.  You can beat it, but it will cost you gas money, shipping money and/or a transfer fee.

IIRC, AIM has new Romanian WASRs in 5.45 for $400 and in 7.62x39 for $370.

Fair price, considering you get to fondle it and check for sight cant and other defects prior to purchase.

It's not a few years ago anymore.

That's a reasonable price for a fun shop OP.  Get it.

I'd pay $20 more to make sure the front sight isn't canted and to see how sloppy the Century monkey cut the mag well.

Semi-auto AK... meh.

I'd take one for free as a truck/throw-away gun... pay?  Nah.

I remember when folks said 300 for a SAR was too much. Turns out it was one of the best deal going.

If it has a tapco trigger and the sight isn't canted it would be ok.

Dunhams has them (WASRs) without the tapco trigger for $345

The current price of 5.45x39 makes a powerful argument for them.

Add shipping and FFL transfer though. $400 is about right.

FWIW, I paid $325 OTD for mine five years ago.

Be sure to thoroughly inspect the rifle for canted sights, gas blocks, trunnions, and off-center bores. As someone else stated, TAPCO FCGs are a plus. Century FCGs(marked with a "C") are garbage.

If it's at a shop, I'd go for it. That's how much I paid for mine 2 years ago.  I wouldn't buy a WASR over the internet, though.  You need to personally inspect them and make sure your sights aren't canted, etc.

I'd say 400 is a good price since you get to check for all the usual symptoms. If it passes your inspection and you want it, I'd say go for it.

That is the stinker about buying them without being able to check them first.

and fwiw classic arms has a romanian double stack model for 349.95 right now, but is it ugly ..

I bought mine a year or so ago for about 400,It's worth it if you get the chance to handle it first.I'm not really much of an AK guy but it is a fun rifle, surprisingly good trigger on it as well.

what are "canted" sites? After I put a AR together I might look into an AK

I just paid $400 for mine.  I looked at about 20 before I found a straight one at the gun show.

Mine is the 10/63 version and it had all matching trunion, bolt, bc and dust cover.  It shoots great too.

Well, I looked at them again and just couldn't bring myself to get one.  So I bought 1K for Federal M193 and an ammo can...for less

I bought one at a funshow in Phoenix about 6 years ago (Crossroads of the West) for $325 and though it had a CRAPPY trigger it WAS quite accurate.

Pimped it up with green furniture but needed new tires for my truck when I moved back to MO so I sold it for $400.

AK's are hardly renowned for their crisp trigger pulls... reliability is its best feature.

Got pics of the green WASR?  I've considered staining my furniture dark green, but wasn't sure if it'd turn out nice.
