Old or new what would be a good semi or lever action rifle that will shoot .22 shorts? I have an old Ithaca model 49 that will shoot them but not well.  Any suggestions

The only repeating rifles that I know of that will handle .22 shorts, longs, and LR’s interchangeably all have tubular magazines.

Lever actions include the Marlin 39, the Henry .22 and maybe the Winchester equivalent of those.

I believe Remington’s 552 semi will handle shorts.

My favorite .22 will handle short, long, and long rifle. Mossburg model 46 b. It will hold 18 LR in the tube. It is a bolt action and a tack driver.

My favorite .22 short only rifle is the Winchester model 74. Reliable & accurate, manufactured between 1939-1955.
