I hope the stuff works better than the current eco-friendly shit that they have out...

$1.50 gas
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:05:30 AM EDT
I saw that on Engadget the other day. It's really cool and I hope it comes to market.

tag to find out if bullshit or not
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:06:48 AM EDT
Weird.

Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:07:14 AM EDT
$10 says the EPA cranks down on it before it hits the US market.
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:08:25 AM EDT
Obvously the govt will tax the shit out of and we will still end up with $4.00/gal gas.

Sounds cool.

Now, how can I make it in my garage?

It will get killed, big oil doesn't like competition.
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:13:21 AM EDT
Usually whenever something seems too good to be true, it is.

I'm going to remain skeptical until I see it at the pump.
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:13:53 AM EDT
What was the name of that guy who found a way to run cars off water back in the 70's? IIRC, he was mysteriously poisoned and died shortly before going public with his knowledge.

Hoax.

Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:15:28 AM EDT

would this finally shut up the epa and their misguided policy on diesels??

Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:18:13 AM EDT
cross your fingers.
Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:18:33 AM EDT
The last line in the second link, the government will get it's hand in it and increase the tax.

This will cause it to be priced well above the current fuels and stunt or stop further research.

Sucks, but as a poster wrote above, Big oil hates competition. They also have the politicians in their pockets.

Average fuel tax per gallon in the US is 45.6c - so even if it's $1.96 that would be awesome!

I don't think I've ever paid $1.50/gal. $1.9x is about the lowest I've ever paid. I'd LOVE to go back to that!

If it ever happens, that is.

I predict 3 things

1)It's snake oil

If it's real
2)It will never be allowed for use in road fuel
OR
3)It will be taxed to bring the cost slightly higher than that of ethanol contaiminted gasoline.

Link Posted: 1/30/2011 11:24:53 AM EDT
I don't believe it for a minute but if it was true this would mean big things for my line of work.

I want 2001 prices back, 94 cents a gallon

It's almost seeming to me similar to that proposal to use aluminum beads and water to produce hydrogen.... it was claimed to be so clean and efficient! Yet, you'd have to empty your tank of oxidized aluminum pellets every time you filled up, then that stuff has to be refined again, taking tons of energy.

They gloss over how it works in the second article the OP posted, but it seems like it's another way to transport hydrogen. How is it extracted from the fuel, or is the fuel itself injected and burned in the engine?

It's a little too vague for me to get real excited about.

I once saw it around then for 69 cents in GA. Cheapest I ever bought at was probably 79.

Globalists want you out of your cars and packed in the cities prior to the Final Solution. There will be no new tech allowed to be widely distributed and put into use until YOU ARE ALL DEAD.

I put it right up there with "we'll all have flying cars!"

Anyway, I got one of those magnet things you put on your fuel line. I don't care what gas foes to.

Nice?
Try "rapacious."

Nice was when I couldn't squeeze 5 bucks worth of gas in my MGB.

'Big Oil' would be the ones producing any synthetic fuel...

Oh, BTW, this stuff is going to be very energy-intensive to produce.

Not practical without significant nuclear-power infrastructure.

Most likely he is only talking cost of materials, not total cost of production.

What he is trying to create, is 'global warming nirvana' - a carbon-free fuel....

The other question, is WHAT has he used to replace carbon? The Hydrogen atoms in his 'fuel' need *something* to bond to, other than each other...

If it's not carbon, what is it...

I doubt he's going to get murdered in his sleep by super secret-squirrel Big Oil Black-Ops Wetworks teams or some crazy shit like that, especially since the announcement has already been made.

That said, I'll believe this technology will give us $1.50 gas when I see it.

Maybe he can invent cold fusion next.
When I worked at a gas station in 1976, regular was 44.9! Then again, I was making
$1.80 an hour.

That would be awesome.

You really think the government is going to freely give up all those taxes they're generating from the sale of $3+/gal fuel?

Because I don't think so.

Well, there is no time to waste, lets start building those fucking nukes like we should have been doing all along.

the US govt would loose billions in tax revenue so it won't be happening

Might depend on where he was in the US.

Dec 17, 2001 the weekly Minnesota regular conventional retail gasonline price per gallon was $0.993
