I have a chance to purchase a Remington 700 in .17 Remington at an excellent price.  What would I want a .17 Rem for?  Please talk me into purchasing one.

I want a .17 so bad I can taste it...
I am building my own .17 wildcat, if that gives you any idea.

Buy it.

Just to make it hurt worse,

I just read in  August's Combat Handguns that Aguila ammo is now factory producing it.
Launching a 20gr. projectile at 1850fps from a modified 10\22 with the same chamber pressure as a 22lr.

And Aguila is offering conversion kit barrels chambered  in .17 for both the 10\22 and the Ruger Standard. The Pistol conversion is Super Sharp looking with what looks like a Weaver rail on top.
The 10\22 comes with a Carbon Fibered barrel.

Since I have both in modified formats already,
I Too am wondering where I can find the conversions and ammo.
It sounds perfect for small pest control around the house.
I have heard good things about their SSS round also. [;)]

I say get it before I find out where it is.

On the boards over at Coyote Gods, the prevailing opinion is that for calling in coyotes for pelts, the 17 Rem is the end-all be-all of cartridges.  Low recoil, low noise, shoots accurately and flat as laser, or close enough, out to 150-200 yds, generally is found in small light weight quick handling arms, i.e. everything you need for a good yote round.  Me, I'm going to try the 35-40 gr bullets in .223 Rem first, since I haven't experimented near enough yet ;)

Del did pique my interest though..
I just did some research on Aguila's site about the new .17 Rimfire...

It is supposed to generate 1750 FPS..
But what I don't get is Aguila's Super Maximum .22 Rimfire is pretty much like that too! So why would anyone want to get a .17 with all new barrels when there is a .22 available that does the same thing?
Both are going to be Aguila products, so I don't get their thinking with the new .17 rimfire...
