I was going to sod my backyard with it until I found out that it is about $200 a pallet.

I bought some of the Zoysia plugs and put them in my lawn. I guess it was about 4 yrs ago and the lawn is only partially covered with this grass, spotty in some areas. I can tell where it is in the winter because it does indeed turn brown. Many others on my street have these lawns and it is nice grass. You just have to wait until it fills in or buy a load of it.

Here in north Texas the growing conditions I presume are radically different from what you enjoy in NY. That said my nextdoor neighbor sprigged his front yard with Zoyzia three years ago and today there's hardly any Zoyzia remaining. He irrigates and has a service do the regular chemical applications. The only Zoyzia left is under his bois d'arc trees. Lawns here are mostly a healthy mix of Bermuda and St. Augustine so the dark green Zoyzia really stood out. Probably too hot for Zoyzia here.

I have it here in Alabama. Nice grass, but not low maintenance. I would call your county extension agent for recommendations. Your tax dollars are paying for him/her. You can also get soil analysis done through them or the ag department at your state university for a nominal fee.

$200 a pallet is cheap for grass sod. Centipede around GA goes for $500 a pallet.

Here in Alabama most people have Zoysia or Bermuda. I do not like the Zoysia, it is very slow growing, twice the price of Bermuda and it is a yellow/green and not the emerald green of Bermuda. You do have to edge the Zoysia alot less but by the same token that means you need to sod you yard with it and not sprig it or it will take 10 years to grow in!

Man you guys are getting screwed! I can get Bermuda for $80.00 a pallet. Zoysia for $120.00 a pallet. I have not checked centipede in a long time but the last time I looked it was cheaper than the Bermuda! It might be worth the freight charges to get it brought over from Al. |
