This weekend is my first as a legal drinker, so I thought I'd ask what y'all like to drink when relaxing and what-not.
Honestly, I'm not a beer man, so what's your favorite other drinks? I'm making a trip to the liquor store tomorrow so your responses will affect buying choices |
50% whiskey 50% Coke
Preferably Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, or Rebel Yell. In that order. |
When I am relaxing -
Hennessy XO Cognac Hennessy VSOP if I dont have any XO. |
Beer: Busch Ice or anything black
Wine: anything red Cocktail: Gin and tonic |
There's other drinks? |
Had a bad time with vodka a few weeks back. Killed an entire bottle of some shitty $12 mix and pretty much wanted to die the entire next day. Haven't had any desire to touch vodka since, or I'd do some with tonic. |
If we're talking other drinks, I've always liked whiskey and I'm getting very accustomed to a little Glenlivet in the evenings.
As for being a beer man, I wasn't either back when I was young and the only beer I'd ever tasted was the Bud and Miller crap I could get my hands on. Once I discovered some of the better stuff out there I became much more of a beer drinker. These days you can get Newcastle and Guiness most everywhere and microbreweries are more popular. For dinner tonight we grilled some buffalo meat for burgers and broke open a growler of ale from Rock Bottom brewery, a damned fine combination. |
Try a Long Island Iced Tea;
1 part vodka 1 part tequila 1 part rum 1 part gin 1 part triple sec 1 1/2 parts sweet and sour mix 1 splash Coca-Cola Mix ingredients together over ice in a glass. Pour into a shaker and give one brisk shake. Pour back into the glass and make sure there is a touch of fizz at the top. Garnish with lemon. A great drink for the novice. Refreshes as it puts you on the floor. |
What about an Amaretto Sour? That was recommended to me by a friend.
That's what my wife, and many other, ahem...women drink. |
Hey, I'm not out to get obliterated. Just a nice drink that goes down smooth and will get me relaxed. |

Hey Triburst,
Is that Distillers Select a privileged item? I have never seen it before. |
-Mikes (hard lemonade, ect...many flavors)
-smirnoff (many flavors) -rum & coke -apple pucker Freeze a drink, throw it in a blender, crush it up. Add some fruit, ect and you have a kickass slushie! I don't like beer either. |
www.woodfordreserve.com Runs about $30.00 a bottle. |
Wow! My powers of observation fail me again. I must have had Woodford reserve 20 times and never noticed the regular bottle said distillers select on it. Now I feel like an ass. Oh well I'll just make another drink. |

+1 on this one, especially for a first time drinker who (gasp) doesn't like beer. Once you get a few whiskey sours inya, you'll begin to build a personal relationship with that spirit and can start to appreciate it. |
Crown and coke or Vodka and tonic
I've been lazy lately so... straight from the bottle |
Bacardi Rum and Coke.
The % depends on how social I need to be. I prefer the Gold Rum to the dry,or clear colored rum. Dry rum = bad taste in your mouth the next day. |
Bloody Mary or Maria (vodka or tequila)
Use good vodka or tequila. Stir in tomato juice, lemon juice, worchestershire sauce, tobasco, celery salt over ice stick in a celery stalk, a pcikle, a jalapeno pepper and 3 large olives and you're good to go. Back it up with an ice cold imported lager, a few munchies and you'll be fine. |
As you get a tast for it, you can ask for more whiskey, less sour. There's also a little ditty that I became familar with in college: One tequila Two tequila Three tequila Floor. Bear that in mind. |

There are two drinks for men: whiskey and beer. Anything else is ghey.
Good Vodka (Absolut, Grey Goose, etc)+ Sprite
Good Whiskey + Water Good Scotch (Single Malt, Highlands my favorite) + Glass B&B Brandy - Very Very Smooth caramel flavor to it, from a snifter, quality cigar helps. If you wanna be a drunk: Southern Comfort + bottle when "on a mission" Tequila shots Keystone Ice & vodka |
gin & tonics (with high-end gin)
magaritas from scratch OJ, tequila, citrogne (does this have a name?) |
Drink lots of cheap liquor. Get the $12 handles of rum or vodka that come in plastic. Then, you will like and come to appreciate a cold beer.
not a beer drinker here. Bacardi Silver, Mike's, or Smirnoff Ice
I suggest he get a 1.75 of the cheapest Gin he can find, and mix it with the cheapest soda water he can find if you want to convert him to beer. Like drinking a Christmas tree. |
Seltzer w/twist of lime.
Beer or red wine. Baileys Irish Cream over lots of ice. |
If I'm feeling extravagent and not lazy, either a mojito or a margarita on the rocks, Modelo Especial for beer. Everything else, Miller time.
I forgot mojitos....I just never have mint lying around. |
White Russian, Bourbon on the rocks, Vodka Martini, Gin and Tonic, Coke and Rum/Jack
Gentleman Jack and Coke.
Smooth, relaxing, and you can still give off a manly vibe. Any drink with a color other than brown will make you look like a pansy. |
