I think Mike Rowe is mostly full of shit.
He champions 'blue collar' working man's jobs like he's their savior. All the while being paid as a narrator/commentator/TV star. Edit:.... I'm adding this to my first post because that's all anyone is seeing before attacking me. And you know what...I earned it. I have not and will not alter the content of my post, because it would be disingenuous and it's been quoted 50 times. The truth is I made a snap judgement based off of seeing this man on TV for no more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. If I'm being completely honest then I have to admit that the whole employment marketplace, the 'working world' we live in, has jaded my views and made me bitter. That's the truth. I could go into great detail, but this is not the time or the place. As for Mike...I was completely wrong. I saw this guy on TV constantly, in brief clips or interviews. I saw his name, this thread, and the article "blue collar bad-ass Mike Rowe etc, etc" and immediately took offense as if he was making his money off of the working man's back. This was completely ignorant and unfounded. I read his response in the link, as well as others here responding to me. I honestly didn't know what I didn't know. I'm man enough to apologise, because I was absolutely wrong. That's what happens when you make snap judgements about people, and for that I am sorry. The post above is what I had to go back and read several times over. Upon reading it, I understand how it came across. Op, you haven't piled on. You could have. You would be righteous in doing so. I want to apologise to you as well. I hate when people disrupt threads as much as the next guy. Apparently I was one of those guys today, and for that I'm sorry. I was wrong. |

I dont believe it's schtick he spends time and money working to support the trade schools. Hey not everyone will be a PhD or hold a Masters. We still need competent trades.

Ha! Well-done, Mike!

He narrated a cancer prevention safety video for our department and it is going to many departments in the country.
His one caveat was no credits were to mention his name anywhere in the video. The guy has a great voice, not as good as James Earl Jones though |

I didn't go to college, never wanted to, I make between $80-90k a year. More if its a good year. The only people joining the trades are from South of the border. A few are good, most build like 3rd world carpenters. Nobody shows them. I won't train an illegal to take my job. I fear my generation is the last of American tradesmen. I'm in my late 50's, I won't last much longer . |

Or could we come to another conclusion that even though he didn't actually serve, his work in the movie and in other related events with the USO led to him developing such a profound respect for the men and women in the military, that he fully committed himself to the cause and as a result has become a great champion for awareness to many veteran's related causes? View Quote No. I think Sinise is great. I don't know what it is. But maybe it's a reflection of myself and family members. We all have worked stupid hard jobs and paid the price with our bodies. But when I hear about Mike Rowe being a working mans' guy I just can't take it seriously. |

Mike Rowe called a white nationalist for saying not everyone should go to college? The left really is unhinged.

I don't think I've ever read where he said you should never go to college. From what I understand, he's mostly saying you don't absolutely NEED college to be a success. College isn't for everybody. By the same token, the country needs skilled tradesmen like welders, carpenters, electricians, pipefitters...
Read Mike Rowe's biography sometime. He's done plenty of small-time jobs. He worked his way up to where he is now. He brings honor to those trades that most 'educated' folk disdain. He's honest enough to admit all that also. He's started a foundation that gives millions towards educating people in useful skills where they can earn decent money and not be on welfare. He gets people away from sucking off the government teat and into standing on their own two feet. That's a hell of a lot more than most politicians do. Given the chance, I'd probably vote for Mike for President because he's just about the only famous person that I can think of, that when I hear him speak or read his essays, I pretty much agree with all of it. |
