Old black & white King Kong movies!
|
|
the entire family being there? now everyone has their own little get together and never have one with everyone there.
|
|
Can't say as I've ever watched a Kong flick on T-Day before.
When I was a kid, the big excitement was to watch the parade down Woodward Avenue in Detroit (on television from our living room, that is). |
|
I remember watching the first Willy Wonka movie on Thanksgiving.
Was a big deal back then. |
|
And that was the once a YEAR they showed the Wizard of Oz. Good times!
|
|
Thats cool and all, but it in no way compares to 24 hours of Christmas Story.

Old black & white King Kong movies! Fuck yeah. Did you watch on WOR in NY? King Kong, followed by Mighty Joe Young (the original not the remake), then a couple of Godzilla movies. |

Old Yeller. Never cared much for the movie, but got to watch a bunch of WWII vets get all misty-eyed

Quoted: the entire family being there? now everyone has their own little get together and never have one with everyone there. This is my family. My grandmother is #6 of 12, so when you count their kids and their kids kids....we used to easily have 100+ on Thanksgiving when I was a kid. Now that the 4th and 5th generations are starting their families, we are doing good to get 40. I see our family reunions lasting another 3 - 5 tops It's sad, more for my mom, but honestly, these are people I see once a year and I will get over it. I guess it's more of a tradition going by the wayside thing... |

A Pittsburgh FM station played all 18 minutes and 34 seconds of Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie every Thanksgiving.
I don't miss that. |

Quoted: I remember watching the first Willy Wonka movie on Thanksgiving. Was a big deal back then. I hear ya...DVR's and VCR's killed that thrill, eh? We also used to watch the original Miracle on 34th Street and always had a cup of Egg Nog. I also agree with the poster who lamented the lack of big family get-togethers: Dad passed in 1994, Mom re-married a Canadian and now never comes home for the holidays. Brother winds up at his in-laws...it's really small now. |

My Grandpa and Grandma being there. That's what used to rock...

Quoted: I really, REALLY miss this movie: I don't know how many other movies they made, None of them compared to the sheer enjoyment I received from this movie. It's my Holiday Favorite. Beyond The Wizard of Oz. That's why I have the DVD. Movie fuckin ROCKS. |

I swear...I could eat thanksgiving dinner every fucking day of the year, and I'd be VERY content. Turkey, dressing, mom's mashed taters, homemade cranberry sauce, homemade rolls, candied yams, and these meatballs my mom does that are fucking INSANE. Some kinda BBQ sauce on em she makes.
However, I was never really that into the different pies. Pie is great, but it's no special treat. My mom makes this strawberry trifle, however, with shaved chocolate, chunks of angel food cake, homemade whipped cream mixed with cream cheese, and SOMETHING else. I don't know. Fucking awesome, though.

When my Dad would make his world famous breakfeast. Eggs mixed with potatos. The potatos cut up into small pieces. That's all it was but we loved it. Now my parents are too lazy and will make the shit two weeks early and freeze it then re-heat it and claim they just cooked it.
