When you leave a case of beer in the truck over night and you have to microwave it to drink it!
I don't think this stuff will thaw out for a while! |
|
I remember living in Stevensville and leaving a 12-pack of bottled beer in my truck overnight, once, and it was right around 0. I went out and got it the next day and brought it inside and it (appeared as though) was still liquid so I popped the top and it oozed out as an instantly-frozen beer-cycle. Had that happen a lot when ice fishing Georgetown, too. Good times!

That is cold alright, this beer is to cold put on stove to warm it up.

I left pickles in my truck overnight. I caught them right before they froze solid.

I think i'd just put the bottles in a sink full of (cold) water.
Microwaving them would be a colossal mistake. (but that's, like, just my opinion, man) |
|
A. How are you microwaving the beer? Most beer comes in something with metal on it.
B. Beverages usually explode when it is cold. If they don't explode its not that cold. |

Was working in upstate NY 2 years ago during a bitter cold snap. Had a case of water I left in the back of the truck. I grabbed one, it was liquid, and right before I opened it someone distracted me. Turned to open it and saw it was frozen, I was like wtf? Grabbed another one, clearly liquid, and was sitting there looking at it trying to figure out what was going on. I showed the guy next to me by shaking the bottle a little. As we stand there it starts turning to solid ice! At this point I realize I have super powers and immediately tried to freeze everything in sight, it didn't work. The only thing I could free were water bottles. That's when I realized my super power's were limited, I've been depressed ever since :-(
Later I found out about super cooled water. Water that's in a clean container can get colder then 32 deg F without freezing. If it contacts the smallest particle, like shaking the bottle and the water touches a ice crystal, then the crystal grows immediately freezing all the water. Ice crystals grow from contaminates in the water. Without those particles there's nothing for the ice crystal to form on. |

You know it's cold when you have to stand in the center of your pants.

I left my Mac in the truck overnight, it took a -20* freeze pretty good, the battery swelled-up and had to replace it.

Being from Texas i had never thought about drinks freezing outside
until i spent a winter up north and a blizzard came through, went out to the truck to grab a water bottle and that son of a bitch was frozen solid |

You know it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold.
Also yes, the standing in the middle of your pants thing, then too. Or when you go outside and take a breath and your nostril hairs freeze |

-30ish wind chills tonight and tomorrow. Love it. I spent enough of my life in 95* 95% humidity and 75* dew points.

I went camping one winter with some friends and we buried our food in a drift so we could make breakfast....a cold front came through with wind...the eggs, beer, vodka, and bacon froze. It sucked.

This time of year, I rarely keep any pop or water in the fridge. Keep it on the porch or in the truck. I'm a lot more aware of really low temperatures now than back before I had a 12 pack explode in my truck. Or before I had a 12 pack machine gun outside my bedroom window one night when the mercury was around 5*.

I think if you take a shot of whiskey at -50 below zero outside and it freezes in your throat and die is worse.
