You guys that are happy with life, why are you happy? Just curious........
2 healthy kids, a descent job, low interest rate on my 15 yr mortgage.
I am still breathing as I type this. Things could be alot shittier. |
I love my wife and kids. I love my job. I live in the greatest country in the world.
Just to list a few reasons. |
I make a comfortable living, am reasonably healthy, and am married to an awesome woman. While things can always be better, they sure could be a hell of a lot worse. |
Great Wife, Decent Job, working towards my life's goal. Whats not to be happy about?
1. Got a wife that loves me... and I love her too
2. I just got a 2 month old boy... our first 3. We are all healthy and have roof over our head and food in the kitchen 4. My parents are healthy and they still love me 5. My in-laws are health and they still love me 6. I have close friends that are like family 7. I have a job 8. My dogs are glad to see me when I get home 9. I have guns and ammo and finally 10. Life is too short to be unhappy |
because the alternative is too easy.
-or- there's enough miserable people in this world already. EPOCH |
My awesome wife, my kids (especially the 4yr. old girl), my family, my friends and my job (probably in that order).
WBK |
too stupid to know any better, but smart enough to know not to ask too many questions.
I can afford all my bills... I have enough toys... I have a great family that loves me... I have great friends. What's not to be happy about? My life could be way worse.
... Because I realized long ago that I had only one chance at life - and at perhaps 100 years, it's short still.
... I decided to make it as loving, happy, exciting, fulfilling, enjoyable and rewarding as possible. |
Well, you just have to lower your expectations a bit.. and be content with what you have and make the best of it. |
I've got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart,
down in my heart, O Lordy, down in my heart, I've got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart to stay! Nothing exteral or material can give it to you, its a *gift that comes from within. *Hint |
Congratulations you have a nice looking family... much to be happy about. You did good. |
Because I just finished watching Wife Swap, and I realize just how lucky I am to have a brain.

If contentment is your song, your life will be full of beautiful music. -- Old German saying.
Life isn't about fun or happiness. It is about contentment, peace, love, and joy. If you take the necessary steps to shape your perception of your circumstances to obtain those blessings, you will have much morre than simple fun or transient happiness. |
Happiness is helping somebody who really needs it. I try to do that whenever I can.
Happiness is also having the confidence that nobody can fuck you unless you bend over and spread your cheeks. I try not to ever let that happen. |
That was the best post I've read all day! HH |

Thanks. Your reply makes me happy |

i am healthy and i live in a first world country. that puts me in a position better than 95% of the people in the world today.
I'm happy because I have defeated my enemies, seen them driven before me, and heard the lamentation of their women hippie.gif
Because i finally realized what i always dreamed of as a kid. The Infantry. Nothing makes me happier than following the footsteps of my heroes. Oh yea and they pay me to do it .

This is the truth. Everyone has reasons to be unhappy, and you will meet plenty of people in your life who seem hell-bent to make you unhappy. But there is only one person who will ever make you happy: YOU. You have to make yourself happy; nobody else will do it for you. I have never understood people who think that their job will make them happy, or their wife, or their kids. These things certainly can go well; they can also go to hell in a handbasket. How you react to the bad times is the measure of a man. I react by lifting my chin, sticking my chest out, and asking what else you brought. Nothing will ever make me an unhappy person. Even if the worst happened to me - and I'd be heartbroken by the death of a child or loss of my wife - I still wouldn't walk around for the rest of my life with the sackcloth and ashes on. I'd pick it up, carry on, and learn to smile again. God gives you a thousand good days for every bad one. Most people screw up their thousand good ones on their own, or sit waiting for the bad ones to happen. Enjoy your good days. |
Because I refuse to let things bug me and get to me like I used to. Besides God gave me even more reasons to enjoy life. |
+1, Being unhappy is a waste of time if you're healthy and got people that care about you. |
Because I've been to "The Bottom".
I know how shitty it can be. I've got it pretty good right now and I know it. |
I have a fiance who's happy most of the time, a dog who's happy all the time, and a couple coolers of cigars that make me happy all the time.

I can honestly say now I'm happy. Before I moved to Virginia I lived in New York. I worked my ass off at least 6 days a week...had a huge mortgage on a home that needed tons of work. I never had anytime for my wife and kids and the one day a week I had off I had tons of stuff to do. I was bummed out...my jobs sucked and I truly hated NY. Well last year my wife and I went to visit the folks in VA.
On the way back my wife cried that she was going back home. On the very next day after we got home we decided to take the gamble and move. Well by the end of the week our house was sold in a bidding war. We cleared a lot of extra cash from the sale...put a nice chunk of cash on a brand new house in an area just waiting to be explored. My kids love the new schools my wife dosen't have to work and at 36 years old I joined the County PD...never in a million years did I ever think I'd be a cop...but now I work besides my brother. After 7 months here it still blows my mind that it all worked out... I am truly blessed |
Because I'm making like roughly 10x what I did last year, I'm doing a fairly fun job that has pretty good perks, I get to interact with Iraqi people sometimes/get to talk to them, etc....
Don't kill yourself!
It's not the answer! (Unless the question is 'How could you end your life the fastest?'" |
Yes,there is always someone who has it worse than me. |
Because I have it better than most of humanity. I'm smart, good looking, relatively young, a man, an American, perfectly healthy. I've got problems but on balance they aren't that bad.
+1,000,000 I used to be kind of a miserable guy, childhood shit and all that, then one summer I decided to just be happy. By the end of that summer life was great. Had more dates than I knew what to do with, was having fun going out with friends and playing lots of tennis. All because I made the concious choice not to be a miserable fuck anymore. No one wants to be around that, least of all the miserable person. Being miserable just takes too much energy. Being happy is easy. Everybody had good things and life, and bad things in life. You choose where you want to focus your energy. |

Happiness is a decision, not an outcome.
When you realize you are in control of your fate, and no one else is, you can grasp happiness much easier than people who are swept along in the current of their lives feeling helpless to change. I'm happy because I want to be. I am happy despite having problems, barriers and hardships. Having a regular source of pie doesn't hurt, either. |
BIG FAT + 1 to that. |
