Maelstrom S18
The Maelstrom S18 is a veritable hand-held spotlight that features 4Sevens' unique thermal regulation and a blistering high output of 1200 OTF lumens.
This is not the sort of light you mount on a gun. This is the sort of light you attach a firearm to. |
|
I'm really temped by the 123 Turbo X, but can't justify dropping $90+ on another light right now.
4sevens smokes Surefire when it comes to high output/ high quality at a much lower price point. |

Check out the strobe mode at a little after the 5 minute mark... |

What's the battery life / run-time on something like that? Probably 30 seconds or so - but they're the best-lit 30 seconds you'll ever see! |
|
Looks nice. I'll wait for something similar at about half the price point, though.

Nice tap dancing. |

Battery drain is measured in seconds, still if it were cheaper I'd rock it. You can't ever have too much light....
|

Why the fuck didn't I know about 4Sevens before I got an E2D?

These are good days for flashlight fans. They just keep getting better and better.

Look at the data sheet for that LED: http://www.luminus.com/products/datasheets/Luminus_SST-90-W_Datasheet.pdf
That's an amazing current density when it's running at a max 9.0A with a forward junction voltage of 3.87V. You're talking about dissipating 30-40W of power from a tiny surface area. It's crazy what they've accomplished with LEDs in the last few years. |

Thermal management has gotta be a challenge, nice low theta j-c, but still... Would be nice if he'd do a run of 3500K warm whites, better CRI, not as much light but still crazy bright |

I was expecting a half-dozen smaller CREE LEDs or some such. |

I bet it has a massive (copper most likely) heat sink in it. The head probably gets warm, but I bet it does just fine. Man, I'm almost glad I'm broke right now so I don't buy one, that really does look pretty sweet |

Do want.
My wife has a birthday coming up, maybe I should buy her one. |

Every 6 months you turn around and there is a new "latest and greatest" and it just keeps getting more and more ass kicking. I thought I was the coolest guy on the block in 2001 when I could whip out my little 5 lumen ARC-AAA. Look everybody! It fits right in my pocket! It's bright! It cost a bunch of money! Today I can buy a light in the same form factor that will crush any production mag light and not put me in the poor house. |

Once it gets under two bills I might just have to pick one up

This may make me rethink the Fenix TK35 I was thinking about.

Quoted: This may make me rethink the Fenix TK35 I was thinking about. I have the TK40 and my biggest gripe is the UI. Outside of that it has been a rockstar for me. Some people love the UI, some people hate it. I'm a hater. |

It's crazy what they've accomplished with LEDs in the last few years. Yeah it is . Think of what will be available in the next few . At this rate , affordable laser weapons are just around the corner . Makes ya wonder how the ATF will define/enforce 'geeks' making laser weapons once it's just a matter of soldering wires instead of needing a machine shop and metal-crafting skills like you need for conventional firearms . |
|
Not too big on the size. For that size I would expect 1500+ lumens. My TK35 is much smaller with 820 lumens.
That said ill probably still buy it because im a flashlight nerd. |
|
I'll be ordering one in the next two weeks. No question. I will order up enough RCR123 rechargeables to run it as well. This light will be a lot of fun.
I have a TK40 and 35, but they are just little things compared to this light. |

Quoted: It would suck if you accidentally clicked it on in your pocket. Nice tap dancing. |

How bright is that, exactly? How about a practical example?
I really don't know shit about flashlights. |
|
Does anyone have a "candlepower" to "lumen" conversion?
Asked another way, how many candlepower is that light? I have a 1,000,000 candlepower light that I bought 6-7 years ago that still works and it's bright as hell. |
