As if things weren't already bad enough, I just turned on the tube to catch the am news and saw this thing has gone up from 145 mph yesterday to an incredible 160! Geez, I hope that thing weakens some before coming in contact with land again, but I don't see that happening. Folks, that thing is simply scary. For a comparsion, the strongest I ever remembering seeing Andrew in 1992 was 150 or 155 mph, and we all know what it did.

I'm sorry it shouldn't be funny but I can't help it. Florida has no manner of luck at all this year. Those poor people. I should send some aid money.

I'd imagine its going to lose a lot of its force once it gets over Cuba. But a meterologist I am not.

The problem is, even if it strikes land before hitting the US, I see little land in it's path that wide enough to really weaken it significantly. Even if this thing loses 20, 30 or 40 mph, it's still going to be pretty powerful. Then it has a gap over very warm waters in which to regain some of it's strength before hitting the US, epecially if it hits somewhere other than FL. Definately something to keep an eye on.

Maybe Cuba will slow it down?

I'll put it this way, if this cane maintains it's strength or increases any, it may very well do to Castro what Kennedy failed to do so many years ago. Too bad the general population down there will have to suffer though.

If this pic is accurate, it's another one like Frances that makes running anywhere almost impossible. The only way out is to get on a plane, and if you're going to do that you had better do it early.

Guess it's a good thing I didn't take my plywood down.
