Fiance and I got tired of all of the bullshit and drama associated with wedding planning so we said fuck it, were eloping in Yellowstone and no one is coming.
Last week of September next year, cabin is already booked just west of West Yellowstone, getting hitched in Mammoth Chapel and hiring a local photographer to follow us around the park and take pics for a day. So far here are some things we want to do while we're there. Anything else we should do? I haven't been there since I was a teenager. See Yellowstone Grand Tetons Fiance wants to fish somewhere Rent a UTV and trail ride for a day Cody Firearms Museum And since this isn't 'Nam |

Grats and good luck!
I'm assuming you want to do these things over several days? The Cody Museum is a few hours outside of the park IIRC. Plus parks are huge, so you can spend days doing stuff in them. |

Holy cow! She is COOL! Works on cahs & gonnes, You should read that creepy National Park thread.

Why not get married in Somalia?
I hear it's nice there this time of the year. |

Redhead. Excellent choice, sir. Got no advise but best wishes and congratulations.

That's a great time of the year to see Yellowstone.
I went right after Labor Day a few years ago, and the Park Maintenance people were rushing to do yearly work in the short window they had between Labor Day and first snow, to do things like paint fresh lines on a lot of the roads, put out stakes for the plows on the sides of the roads, etc... |

That sounds awesome. In hindsight that is exactly the kind of wedding that I wish I had. Yellowstone and Cody, WY are incredible, I visited there this summer and I can't wait to go back.
The road between Yellowstone and Cody is very nice, lots of great spots to take pictures or go camping. I would have like to have stopped to go hiking but we didn't have the time. I'm not even sure if there are any hiking trails in that area. Have fun and congratulations! |

Spend a day or two at Mammoth Hot Springs...
Really cool place, and was the Cavalry HQ when the army ran Yellowstone, all the original stables and quarters etc are there yiu can tour...the elk sitting on the layer cake formation chilling in the warm water is cool...lots to see right around there... |

She's big into animals so we are going to make a point to try and see most of the native wildlife. She has a nice point and shoot but we will probably buy a nice DSLR before we go. |

Cody from the West Entrance to Yellowstone is a hike. I would find a room for the night even if I had one and stay in Cody. You can do a lot of riding from place to place. Backtracking in the park is almost impossible not to do, with what you stated for visits. One thing to remember you can't drive wide open to make up time. You will round a corner and there will be a herd of buffalo or elk in the road.
I suggest you stay a couple days on the west side, a couple in Cody and s couple in Jackson Hole. You could substitute Mammoth Springs as well. Just did a trip and there is a lot to see with just s few roads to get there. |

the Madison is right near West Yellowstone.
I fished the lower Madison near Quake Lake once; it was great. I don't know what kind of fishing you'll get right now. check your IM |

Saint Anthony sand dunes, just North of Rexburg, Idaho. Rent ATVs for a day.
Moose , Wyoming- Rent bicycles for a day, bike trails and local area is excellent. Road trail up to Jenney Lake. Also in Moose, rent/buy fishing gear- the snake river runs thru town. Or take Teton park road North to the dam, excellent fishing at the dam. Go to Culter Bay Village, excellent restaurants and Breakfast. Drive up to Signal Mountain, nice views looking south and east. Hike around Jenny Lake, good trails on the west side of the lake. You can spend a relaxing day in Jackson , just check out the city. Bring warm clothing, hat and gloves. |

Do it later in the winter. I took a 3 day snowmobile trip out of West Yellowstone. Stayed in the park 1 day and then 2 days in the mountains. Every night we returned to West Yellowstone, great meals, hot tub...lots of fun.

That's the very short list for a week trip there, you'll have time to hit random stuff between, but that'd be the major itinerary items for each day save for 3 and 4, which could be put into one day. |
