Really low crime rate and no homeless population in town.  We've got some tweakers around the county, but when it's this cold they seem to not be real motivated to cause trouble.  During the summer we have some tourism, but only a few snowmobileers now, and they don't cause trouble either.

That said, it's been a long winter already, I hate days that never get to double digit temps

I moved from a place with no bums to a big city in the upper midwest a few years ago. I got there in the summer and had the though "I can't wait until winter so all these fucking scumbags have to stay inside".

lol, nope.

scumbags get free parkas and continue unabated.

Yeah, we simply don't have anywhere for them to hang out, small rural town, no all-night basketball facilities or bus stations.

Nightly lows have been in the single digits but that didn't stop an inmate from escaping last night. Hope he got frost bite.

I HATE the cold-- I could not survive there.

I was thinking the main benefits were no mosquitos and squeaky snow.

I live west of Minneapolis about 40 miles.  Small town and the imbecile city council allowed subsidized housing to be built several years ago. Now we have the Minneapolis problems out here with drug dealers and burglaries etc.  If it were not for all the nice lakes, ice fishing and hunting, I would move the hell out of this liberal waste land. I just cannot believe that there are a majority of such fools and morons living here to vote in these corrupt socialist politicians time and again while totally being screwed by them over and over yet they keep on voting for the bastards. How can people be so stupid and gullible in such numbers is beyond me. Land of 10.000 lakes and 6 million retards.

Nothing beats driving out on a frozen lake and setting up a flip over portable fish shelter with heaters, Vexilar sonar, and catching a limit of 12 inch Crappie in 25 below temps. Nothing!!!

Not enough of them!  Libs need their votes to survive so hence the programs and tax money to sustain them!

Heh!  Tell me that when you get to be 59 years old. I go fishing to get away from the yakking women. If they come along ice fishing with me so I can keep more fish on the limits, I set them up in their own shelter so I can fish in peace.

You guys are still young.  Spend 32 years with a wife and you will be going ice fishing to get away every chance you get!

We were in the 70s all through Christmas and a few days after.

We finally got down into the 30s and 40s a couple of days ago. I actually had to use the heat last night.

Fish bite very well in the winter.  Real slow sometimes but they bite!

Pretty cold here today too.

It will barely get into the low 70's.

Here is a catch from last winter taken in my portable flip over fish house.  For some reason it won't let me post pictures here but I am a moron on computers. Maybe someone can make it a picture that knows what they are doing.

You know, a little Viagra will give you a whole new outlook on that.

Anything under 60 degrees or so is unpleasant for me. I need to move farther south.

Oh, I thought you meant waking up at -7 in a tent.  And my answer was going to be "extremely motivated to get the fire going, and there's no mosquitos."

You will hate yourself for never doing it!  First time I had the balls to try it with some friends back in my 20's, I found out that there isn't much better ways to spend time when it is 20 below and you get fresh fish to fry that are great eating. Been doing it ever since and in total comfort never getting cold ever.  Ice is too thin round here now but hopefully it stays colder to make ice thick enough to drive on. I hate dragging my stuff out a quarter mile and back again when it is thin ice.  Driving right out there is great.
