I have been wanting one of these for decades, probably ever since I saw the Battle of the Bulge movie in the 70's. I knew that a german company Sport-Systeme Dittrich Was making a copy of the STG-44 / MP-44 for a few years, but due to ATF asshattery I never expected to see a copy.

Now it looks as if I. O. Inc. has either partnered with SSD to import (less likely ) or license a copy of for production (more likely IMHO) of the famous STG-44 / MP-44 for sale in the USA.

The bad news, about a $5K pricetag, about 25% of the cost of a real one, if you can find it and live in a state where you can own MG's. As the new rifle is semi only, it can be owned by us in free states.

I guess I will be rolling change and picking up cans and whoring myself to old cougars for $ till I can get one.

They are also making a pistol only variant of the MP-38/40, with the folding stock welded in the closed position.

Am I the only one that is batshit for the STG-44, or are there others with interest in what is arguably the worlds first "Assault Rifle"

Bet the ammo is hard to find though...
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:52:58 PM EDT
I love that rifle.

But I'd rather have an FG-42
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:53:14 PM EDT
I'd love to have one but I'd never pay 5 grand for one.
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:53:28 PM EDT

I'd love one too, but no way could I do the $5000. I can buy a full auto Sten for that.

5K for a nostalgia piece? Is it in 7.92 Kurz?
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:54:05 PM EDT
Ain't here yet and Ain't BATFE-approved yet.
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:54:49 PM EDT
It is in 7.92x33 and Privi Partisan / Grafs has ammo for it.
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 10:54:56 PM EDT
It's an interesting project, but I don't know if I could justify spending five grand on something with no happy switch.

It appears to be 8x33 Kurz.

Privi Partisan makes good brass cased ammo in 7.92mm Kurz cheaper than most 7.62x51mm.

Chunk that in to the "if I win the lotto" part of my brain.

There are a couple of NFA goodies you could get for 5K.

I already own 4 mg's, and yes I know there are several other +/- $5k mg I could get, but when was the last time you ever saw an STG-44 in person? I have been in the class 3 world for about 15+ years and I have only seen 3 real STG / MP 44's, those now run about $ 17-20K.

My son picked one up in Iraq. His team had it, and more than a dozen 'very interesting' weapons in their can for four or five months. They were found out and forced to light a thermite grenade and burn them. I have a photo of the pile with the grenade burning. It brings tears to my eyes.

You can buy one if you're a Canadian. Marstar imports them into Canada.
Link Posted: 7/16/2008 11:37:52 PM EDT
I have heard about this a while ago, I saw an ad for one in SGN for less than that, but it might be the same one

I love the STG.44, but I have no intention of leaving WA anytime soon. If I had 5K I'd buy it in a heartbeat. In fact I'm going to start saving for it. If it turns out to be a complete piece of crap, or doesn't get approved I have 5K in the bank for other goodies.

it's semi-auto; that is to say, legal even in Washington.

the jacket is for trying to catch the brass to reload, you can see a piece right below his hand.

Yeah, If you already have some MGs, it would be cool, if they do a quality job.
Would be nice if they made the non NFA componenets it exactly to spec so you could swap a couple of actual WWII parts on there for grins, like stocks, etc.

Last week. I can shoot it, but I've got to get the ammo for it. I'm going to order a few boxes from Grafs just to say I shot one.
Link Posted: 7/17/2008 6:48:15 AM EDT
IIRC, Sarco had 4 or 5 sitting on the rack still in the packaging. I don't know if they were semi or full auto or what the price was.

I laughed when I saw the jacket, because I knew exactly what it was for.
I bet Stg44 owners are the most anal about recovering their brass.

Nice addition to any collection...but not for $5k. Sorry...no deal here.

Agreed...

Even if I could own one here I'd pay 2K maybe, but not 5

I think I would rather build an AK in this caliber for under $1000 then shell out 5k(as if I could).A .308 saiga would be a good start for the bolt face .Blocked in or cut down mags would work.

Yeah I don't get that price it really doesn't make sense. Can someone explain to me why so expensive? thanks. It is hurting my brain.

And OP no you aren't the only one. I love these.

I think part of it is due to the exchange rate, importation fees, transport costs, etc.

The other part is Sport-Systeme Dittrich is the only game in town for a new manufacture MP-44.

ETA: It looks like they may have built all new tooling to manufacture these rifles, so undoubtedly that adds to the per-unit costs.

Yeah, it's pretty much 5K for theirs or 20K + NFA stuff if you can get a real one. They can charge whatever they want because if you want one bad enough you'll pay for it.

They are extremely fun to shoot in full auto. Here's a buddy's:

These are fun to shoot too:

Same round.

Looks like it would be sweet, but man, I'm sure everything from mags to ammo is expensive. Maybe if I was collecting a lot of rare WWII weapons.

I'd be interested at about $2000. At $5000 it's just ridiculous.

fixed it for ya. Some pay $50 for a hamburder and $200,000 for a car.
If it makes them happy, why not?

Chambered in 7.62x39, accepting AK mags, it would sell like hotcakes. Just athought...

I really, really want one.

I was hoping for some kind of back door dealer pricing discount, but I'm not a dealer.

I'm thinking about just saying the heck with it and ordering one anyways.

Group buy, anyone?

How about DFW crew can help me pay for it and I'll hang onto it for them?

$5K?? I can buy a G3 and a FN FAL and still have alot left over for a shitload of ammo.

The Zielgerat 1229 "Vampir" infrared sniper version of the '44 was real, by the way. Though only about 300 were delivered.

The Zielgerat 1229 "Vampir"

images taken at the sniper training facility in Doberitz, Elsgrund

Scope mount detail

MP43/1, MP43: A few had a scope rail spot-welded to the right side of the main housing. The steel base was almost identical to the integral G43 / K43 scope rail. The scope mount had an appearance very much like the very first G43 slanted-strut telescope mounts. A special ZF4 was used for the "kurz Patrone" (because of different trajectory).
The scope rail was later used with the "Vampir" infra red setup.
