What would stop somebody from making a round that fired several .22 caliber bullets at once from a shotgun or rifle.

They make a round like that for the 40 MM Grenade launcher.

A smaller version of the XM 1822.

Like what...buckshot?

I must be missing something...

I suspect that it would be classified as a machine gun since it would "fire more than one round with a single pull of the trigger".

This is allowed with a 40MM GL since the Destructive Device classification supercedes the MG classification.

no, buckshot is a bunch of metal peices that share one thing of gun powder, making is spread. 22's would all fire strait, because they each have thier own gunpowder source..

i would be interested in seeing this in action.

Yes a "beehive" round for a shotgun.

One pull of the trigger and out comes 4-6 .22 caliber bullets.

Ah. I gotcha. You had me confused there for a sec.

So far as I know, a 'beehive' round is a standard anti-personel cansiter shot. Orginally, they called it grape shot.

Last time I checked, my 00 buck was loaded with 9 .36 cal balls.

However, yall seem to be talking about rounds that exit one after another, along the same flight path.

I'm talking about a round that in it were 4-6 .22 caliber long rifle rounds and when you pull the trigger, they all go off and fly out the barrel.

I had an idea a while back for a round that was essentially 4 .223 roundswith a shared propellent source, that would fit into a special shotgun with 4 rifled .223 barrels incorporated into one unit.

Quad firepower, full accurracy... of course... totally useless

There is a company right now that is developing a multi-barreled weapon, where projectiles are stacked in the barrels, one after another, and electronically fired.

Cant remember what the hell it's called. Sounds like seawizz when it goes off.

Would this run afoul of machine gun laws even if the .22 cartridges were in one big cartridge, like a shot shell?

I cant see how, seeing as it is pretty similar to buckshot or the shot-shell rounds you can get for .45s etc.
