I just saw a case of 7.62X39 for $189.00. Last i picked up a case it was $80.00. Why has everything doubled? A case of 5.56 used to be around $160.00. This sucks! I want cheap ammo!!!

1. The surplus ammo has dried up. After the cold war a lot of nations sold off existing stockpiles and that’s gone. Also the UN is pressuring nations not to sell ammunition on the surplus market.

2. Economic expansion in China and India have driven up the cost of copper and lead.

3. The war on terror (mostly training to fight it) is taking up a big chunk of the world’s ammo production capacity. Remember that Afghanistan and Iraq needed to restock too.

4. I’ve been doing more shooting. I’m not doing all that much to put a dent in supplies but I’m trying.

The result is that supply has dropped, manufacturing costs have gone up, and demand has risen.

It's called a war.  You guys would fold like a bad poker hand if you had to deal with the kind of rationing that went on during WW2.

Wish it was that easy,  Take the popular .55 gr FMJ .223 bullets for example.  Nearly impossible to find these days.  Seems that the big dealers are out of stock and not taking back orders (some one let me know if I am missing some thing here).  I have also noticed that my local stores are having a hard time keeping primers on the shelves.

Just bought a case of Winchester 7.62 NATO. 200 rounds, $150, give or take.

I should stick with 9mm. 357SIG isn't doing well either.

Well I have some LC M855 ( 840 rounds) I'll let go for $1.50 a round plus shipping and insurance. NOT! Now I did buy a couple of boxes of 55 gr FMJ Remington from Wally World for $6.44 for a box of 20. AE 223 is $8.99 a box of 20 here in town and I know a guy who has some XM193 for $7.95 a box. Now tomorrow I'm going to try and convince the the people at Wal Mart to start carrying 45 Long Colt.

Its getting to the point that its too expensive to shoot and too expensive to eat.

You all should have horded your ammo and bought 9mm and .22 conversions.

Like I did.

Went by Academy this afternoon and checked their .223 prices. Monarch brass cased FMJ had jumped from 6.86 (was 3.86 a year ago) per box to 7.75.  It looked like the same stack of ammo that was there a month ago. Did not buy any.

They have not had steel cased .223 in stock the last two visits.

Thank God I broke down early last year and bought 10 cases of that Guatemalan surplus from AIM.

Dust off the termite shit, tumble for 2 hours and it's passable looking stuff....the only problem is I've got the hoarding mentality now so I almost hate to shoot what I've got because I know what it's gonna cost to replace.

Even reloading is looking expensive these days.
