The funny part is that guy thinks his post is a rant.  He hasnt read any of the rants here.  On a scale of 1 to 10 his spiel is about a 1.5.

It was actually entertaining.  On fullauto.com they had their own forum and if anything bad was said it would get deleted and trashed.  Very similar to Toady tactics.  And of course the legions of asskissers hoping to score an example.

It's a weapon used on the spaceship that was hiding in the Halle Bop comet.

You had to castrate yourself and wear purple Nikes to get on the waiting list.

It disappeared with all the other Heavens Gate members.....

Legit question: WHY did the Shrike fail???

Why does it seem that a reliable, mass produced belt fed conversion for the AR/M16 is an impossibility?

Same reason most small business fail.  Poor business plan and financial management.

It failed because the designer did some insanely stupid things.  He decided to use some M249 SAW parts as part of his design.  I mean, why reinvent the wheel and spend money designing, developing, and producing your own feed tray for a 5.56mm belt fed using M27 links when someone has already done that?  Then all you have to do is just buy them.  Unfortunately FNMI doesn't want to or have to sell Ares any parts, so he's fucked.  The few Shrikes that have made it into circulation were built with used M249 parts found on the gun show market.

There have been several in the past - Ceiner, Vollmer - and a few others that never made it to market.  Plus most of the big manufacturers like Colt have made belt fed 5.56s.

Wasn't that much.  1000 deposit and 1500 when product is ready to be delivered.  Ahh, there might have been a price increase when you ordered.  My confirmation letter is postmarked 15 Aug 2002.

I just LOVE no information.

Edited to post this... some info on the shrike.

IIRC...There were only 3 or 4 well-connected people having it now....I was thinking that I might (a big MIGHT) buy it if and when I know it work great with the original price tag....But now the price goes up to the point I say 'Screw it'.

Seriously, that was Ares way of saving themselves. "Deliver" a few to industry people in a display so that everyone can see and tell all the folks at Shot Show they are being delivered. It's August and no others have been "delivered".

And their pals who got them "agreed to nondisclusure agreements" I almost miss that section of Full-Auto. Are the shrikettes still threatening slander lawsuits?

The Shrike forum was the best part of Full-Auto.com.  I really miss the trading of insults and threats.

What ever happened to Major Insider??

Small arms contracts with the US Army usually specify that parts and weapons may not be sold to civilians (I know the FN M16 contract does), they can only go to the military or must be destroyed.  His own dumb fault for not realizing that.

Hmmm, deposits, no updates, stringing along those who paid deposits.  It's either a scam or they are the most colossally incompetent people to ever walk the earth.  Anyone who thinks it isn't is delusional.  If they were so incompetent that they couldn't design the thing by now, you'd think they would have offered the deposits back, but I'm sure that money is spent by now.  In the time that this has taken my dog could have planned a mission to Mars.

Ares should be asamed. They drove up the price of M16 to where normal folks cannot even dream of having one.
