Police said the owner of Avatar Graphics, a T-shirt design company on Blanding between San Juan Avenue and Park Street, was opening his store when someone shot him in the stomach. The unidentified owner shot the suspect back. Police confirmed that the suspect later died.
Surgery was performed on the owner Monday at Shands Jacksonville hospital, Lt. Darryl Daniels said.
The death brings the city's homicide total to 92 for 2007 compared to 96 at the same time last year.

Just for the record, shooting and killing a BG is still a homicide (justified). The shop owner must have had a handgun on him although there was no mention of the type of firearm(s) used. Tough shop owner taking one in the abdomen and returning fire.
