I agree with about 1/3 to half of that.
The others are deal breakers.

How can You support death penalty and outlaw abortion.

It's Reagan. "Gov't isn't the way to prosper" has to be RR.

Thay way of thinking won't win again. It'll be interesting to see what the fucking FSA wants next time.

Opposing drug legalization is not a black and white issue. Admitting that marijuana regulation should be handled at the state level doesnt make one "pro drug" it makes one pro states rights and pro limited federal goverment.

Reagan ran up the debt... Not as conservative as I would have liked. Not to mention the Hughes amendment.

Tax cuts without spending cuts are future taxes... Deficit spending is NEVER good.

Only if it's a choice between him and Obama.
Link Posted: 11/20/2012 5:24:32 PM EST
I voted NO but since we only ever have two bad choices I would need to see the oppositions platform before making a final decision. Against Obama and his agenda (21) I would actually have to vote YES.

Sounds too much like one of the "morality police" types to me.

I suppose if it was this guy or obama, I'd take this guy.

But, if you're trying to draw some parallel between a past president, and today, sorry, that doesn't work. The world is a different place now.

Seriously, if you're gonna say "So you wouldn't vote for Reagan" or someone similar, FAIL.

P.S. This guy would get trounced even harder than Romney did in an election.
Link Posted: 11/20/2012 9:43:45 PM EST
I don't think you are going to get a lot of support from a God & Family candidate ever again.
Link Posted: 11/20/2012 9:50:35 PM EST
Poll doesn't really matter much, since NO candidate is getting elected with that combination of positions in this day and age.

Conservatives arguing against abortion is like liberals arguing against firearms. You don't have to like it or agree with it, but it's still legal under the Constitution.

The Constitution does not say abortion must be legal in the several States or in territories under the controul of the national government. An argument that legalizing abortion for convenience is in violation of the 14th Amendment would probably result in a stronger case. Unlike keeping and bearing arms freely, killing your unborn children is not a right of any sort. The two are simply incomparable.

Now, in terms of political impact, in some places, arguing against it can be as futile or off-putting as Leftists arguing for gun controul in other (usually the opposite sort of) areas, but that is hardly the case everywhere, and in any case, Edmund Burke's saying that for evil to triumph all that is required is for good men to do nothing is foremost in mind, and anyone who believes abortion is an evil (which it is) is unlikely to be swayed against prohibiting what is seen as a heinous act (the sort of act that the state is more than justified in prohibiting).

I don't understand how some people can consider killing unborn babies the same as killing murderers.

WTF does that mean?

Opposes abortion & abortion on demand should be outlawed.

I strongly agree with that, although it is possible we'd disagree on who's job it is to enact and enforce such prohibitions.

Plans to increase the national debt

This is going to be the case for anyone who does not support cutting back the Provider State, although of course I disagree with increasing the debt at this point.

Government isn't the way to prosper

Sounds more like a talking point than a position.

Deficits are OK to support tax cuts

I'd have to disagree. There needs to be some sense of proportion here.

Gay teachers should not advocate their lifestyle to students

Absolutely agree, but that should be for the States to handle outside of schools in areas directly administered by the national government.

Supports constitutional amendment to allow prayer in schools

While I have no problem with prayer in schools, the amendment process should never be used for things like this and I don't think one is actually needed for prayers to be acceptable in public schools. One can just leave the States be when it comes to such matters.

Pro death penalty

Strongly agree. I think it is under-utilized.

Completely against drug legalization

Disagree to an extent at the State level, strongly disagree at the national level (because making them unlawful is not within the legitimate powers of national government).

Eliminate price controls on gas and oil

Agree.

Against burdensome EPA regulations that stifle the economy

Agree.

No intention to cut Medicare

Strongly disagree. Medicare represents a huge chunk of the cancer that ails this nation. It must be eliminated, even if it means reduction over time and privatization before total seperation from the state or any mandates therefrom.

In favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants

Strongly disagree.

I should mention that he's strongly pro-business, pro-national defense, smaller government, and obviously in favor of low taxes.

I'm not pro-business per se, but I am pro free market. There are good and bad businesses, and not everything that helps a business (such as subsidies) benefits the public. I have doubts about smaller government support claims by this individual. I support low taxes, but that should be an end goal rather than something brought about immediately, under our circumstances. "Pro-national defence" sounds a lot like a euphemism.

It isn't totally possible to deduce the actual political views of someone from a bullet point display, but at a glance this guy seems like a neoconservative type, which I dislike (even though we might agree on some social and other issues), and some of his positions (such as on illegal immigration) are deal-breakers for me.

Global gag order on family planning. -Uh, no. We have this thing called the first amendment. He may wish to familiarize himself with the document its part of.
Opposes abortion & abortion on demand should be outlawed.-I don't really feel strongly one way or the other about this, but it loses us elections.
Plans to increase the national debt - Not without a really pressing reason, such as threat of invasion
Government isn't the way to prosper -Agreed
Deficits are OK to support tax cuts -No. We spent the money, now we pay the bills.
Gay teachers should not advocate their lifestyle to students - Mixed bag on this. While it isn't the states place to cap their speech, it also isn't a subject for algebra class. Im erring on the side of freedom with a No.
Supports constitutional amendment to allow prayer in schools - I have no problem with this. Free speech is free speech.
Pro death penalty - Actions have consequences. No problem with this.
Completely against drug legalization - Yeah, hows the war on drugs working out? We've spent 1.5 trillion and the addiction rate remains the same. Need to quit tilting at windmills.
Eliminate price controls on gas and oil - There aren't any price controls on gas or oil at the moment, other than the ethanol retardation
Against burdensome EPA regulations that stifle the economy - Agreed. The EPA needs to be seriously reigned in. At the same time, I don't want to see our air and water quality look like Beijings
No intention to cut Medicare - So long as its paid for, sure.
In favor of amnesty for illegal immigrants -Given the logisticl nightmare deportation would be, I would be willing to discuss a penalized path to citizenship only after the border was secured and all alien felons deported.

I see the lesser of two evils is still alive and well.

Deficits to support tax cuts....this is one of the main reasons I have a hard time supporting the R party now. They are fiscally irresponsible.

Mostly good... a few bad... and depending on what he's running for the bad isn't necessarily in his control. So if for instance he were running for president... yeah I'd vote for him.

How about
Abortion - state issue as its not an enumerated power of the federal government also favors a repeal of Roe Vs. Wade
Drugs/war on drugs - state issue as its not an enumerated power of the federal government
Education - state issue as its not an enumerated power of the federal government
Marriage - state issue as its not an enumerated power of the federal government
Guns - has an open stance that the second amendment is clear, shall not be infringed
Budget - in favor of reducing the federal budget by 47%

candidate was a governor for 8 years in a heavily democrat state where he went from a Billion+ deficit to a surplus and cut something like 15% of all state employees. This candidate started his own business and grew it to a company of over 1000 employees.
